I've been on an apple sampling kick after living in the dark on them for years. My parents only ever bought red delicious (ew) or granny smiths when we were growing up, so I never got to sample the wares until I started buying them myself. Granny smiths are still my favorite (calm down PFiDC), but honeycrisps are pretty bangin'.

Honeycrisp all day if I'm simply picking one up and eating it.

I would probably move between gala, honeycrisp and granny depending on if I want something sweet or tart. So those three are equal to me. I just hate the texture of mcintosh

I agree with all of this. Gala are generally cheaper here, so I get those mostly.

Honeycrisp if I'm just chompin on one.

I've also enjoyed Jazz (cross between Gala and Braeburn) and Snapdragon (a descendant of honeycrisp but a little more complex taste).

Granny Smith is the goat for baking purposes, and if I want something not so sweet, I'll go with it for munchin.

Honeycrisp, Jazz, and Opal (Golden delicious x Topaz). Usually go with Opal when I can find them.

Tough to really assess an apple unless you are plucking them directly from the tree. Most grocery store apples taste like they are made for those fake plastic fruit bowls that were popular in the 80s.

You must have the worst grocery store apple selection in the world.

On this list, honeycrisp.

My old boss's family used to own a few grocery stores so he knew all kinds of sht about produce and was a produce snob despite having many yinzer bonafides. Kiku was his favorite type of apple, and they were really good (although I might like honeycrisp more). Kikus are only available seasonally and are generally not cheap. I do buy them when they are around though.

If I'm having an apple to eat, it's honeycrisp and no other options. I voted for this since there was no context outside of trying them.

If I'm making applesauce or any type of baked good, honeycrisp doesn't even get considered.

Am I wrong, though? Tell me you haven't noshed an apple directly from a Sorgel's tree and said to yourself, "wtf have I been eating all my life?"

They’re definitely better but I’m not going to turn my nose up at all grocery store apples because of it.

Granny Smith’s are awful for anything except baking.
