How much is “a lot of money”

This is probably my take, too. No debts of any kind and life is on cruise control.

Being debt-free just makes Fate come up with new things you have to spend money on, like, say, a new HVAC system. And probably a new roof sooner rather than later.
Yeah, but with no debt this is unremarkable. 5 grand for a new roof? Put it on the one credit card I'd have and with no mortgage you could pay it off in a few months.

How is a new roof only 5 grand unless you live in a super small house?? I'd say 10 grand minimum for most houses and that's on the low end.

Probably cause I'd do it myself, lol. I've helped re-shingle a roof once already.

Well, and ideally with no debt I'm going to sock more away and hopefully pay cash for the HVAC or roof. They're going to come up whether I'm in debt or not. If it happened now I'm just gonna go into more debt and hope my bonus allows me to clear it next Spring.
