The expectations for this team are out of hand. They have OK wins against Tennessee and GT and a bad loss against WMU. They have also played just 1 ACC game. Pitt middling Power 5 team in a division of middling power 5 teams. Nard dog hasn't done anything in his tenure here that indicates that he can take middling talent and run away with a conference title. Even when they won the coastal, they lost 2 ACC games but managed to win the division by default. they still might win the coastal, but it will be by default instead of earned. if that makes any sense. by default, I mean they lose to the right teams.
This is how I feel. Because we scored a lot of pts against GT, everyone flipped from "fire Narddog, we suck" after WM to "we can go 11-1. This is Pitt. We are on par with MIami, UNC, VT and even though they are struggling, less than Clemson. If we split even those games, that is 9-3. Which is much more respactable winning the division than the year we went 7-5 and won it.

That's why that WM game is so bothersome IMO. I don't mind going 6-2 and winning the division. That happens. Especially with Clemson on the schedule. But if that ws the case, we'd be 10-2 and probably in the top 15.

Now, at best to win the division, we'd probably be 9-3, on the fringe of the top 25, and could realistically finish up 9-5 and outside the top 25. That just feels typical Pitt.

I still think we finish 8-4.

I don't think this team is CFP material by any stretch of the imagination. But I think GT is pretty much a carbon copy skill-wise of each team we'll get the rest of the way. Could Pitt slip up? Sure, they probably will. But I just think the Coastal is ass this year and Pitt is actually just pretty good. Hopefully they capitalize as much as a Pitt team is allowed to

Really it comes down to the opposing team's QB play. VT's QB is a stiff. DJ Ukulele is a stiff. All of the Miami QBs are stiffs, including King. UVA's QB stinks. Sam Howell is/was good but he is not good at the moment. Then again, GT's QB put up almost as many yards as Kenneth Shane Pickett and it seemed like Pitt did a good job against him. Even if pitt plays a QB as "good" as the WMU guy, there will be problems.

Fine, just be that way people. I might as well jump on board and just book a hotel at every NY 6 bowl AND Indianapolis just to be safe. Also, where do they host the Heisman award ceremony? Might as well go that, too.

I'm still in "wait and see" mode with Narduzzi. I said after WMU that I don't care if they fire him and I still think they really need to consider it if they don't win at least 8 games this year. I'd also love nothing more than to see them somehow win 10 or even 11 this year. If that means another 3 years of Narduzzi, so be it. I'll take it.

A solid QB will take a team a long way in college football and Pitt certainly appears to have that in Pickett. His touch on the ball has been a massive improvement over his previous seasons. I also think the balance in the passing attack is going a long way to helping him out. I mean, who knew that actually having a legitimate threat at TE would do so much to help the rest of the receivers and the QB?

They still need to shore up the running game but I think it's coming along. I just hope they don't get into a situation like they did at VT in 2019, where a game is played in a driving rainstorm and they need to rely heavily on it.

I don't trust the defense, which is something I really didn't expect to say this year. Receivers got behind Pitt DBs a little too often against Tennessee and GT. If Milton doesn't overthrow a few wide-open receivers and if Pitt doesn't deflect a couple of throws against GT, maybe some of those plays turn out differently. That said, wins are often the product of some combination of luck and opportune plays, and defensive linemen causing a deflection on a pass and forcing a turnover is the type of play that successful teams make.

As far as their prospects for the rest of the year, I'm trying to take it a game at a time because it's Pitt. The rest of the Coastal appears to be mud and even Clemson doesn't look like typical Clemson, but that's not Pitt's problem. The next three games should give us a good idea of where the offense really is and as long as the defense stays in "bend-don't-break" mode as they did against GT, I like their chances in each game remaining on the schedule.

I share this sentiment. My "floor" comment, i realize is more optimistic than I actually am. I think they have a clear path to at least 8 wins, so floor wasn't the right word. Pickett is playing a level above his opponents, and the rest of his team and that will be more than enough to beat other mediocre teams. But that defensive performance against the Maction team demonstrates that they are easily capable of losing any of the games remaining on their schedule.

Same. VT winning could:

A) give them some momentum and probably a prime time game for their fans to get juiced up all day
B) make next week a nice little letdown spot

So I don't know if there's a reason one way or the other as a Pitt fan. In that case, **** ND

VTs defensive captain/presumably good LB just got ejected for targeting and has to miss the first half next week. That's a shame

Currently a 3.5 point favorite at VT. Over/under at 57 which is tempting because Pitt has scored at least 41 every week

ACC Coastal related:

Packer & Durham reported on ACCN this morning that D'Eriq King is done for the year. Apparently Manny Diaz confirmed it on his weekly radio show.

I'd be excited, but backup QBs usually kill Pitt.

3:30 game. Looks like the super panthers are now 5 point favorites.

My take is this: from here on out, if pitt is playing a good QB with a good scheme, pitt will likely lose the game. VT's QB situation is a disaster right now, so i feel good about this game. PREDICTION: Pitt 31-VT 24 but the game really wont be that close.

VTs defense doesn't impress me. Pitt's defense doesn't impress me. No way over 57 doesn't hit imo unless Pitt holds VT to like 17 somehow. Which means this is the return of

*ulf's lock 🔒 of the week*

Over 57.

Pitt 41-33
