Let's not forget that Fitz Shady and Lewis were three of the most prominent sophomores to be eligible for the draft. Pitt can have nice things but only for a bitI truly believe Pitt is cursed. Man after riding that high of Kenny getting drafted, this BS happens not even a day later

The transfer situation needs to be fixed, especially with NIL stuff in the mix. If not, the rich will only get richer and gut mid-tier programs.

Lengthy rant time...
It was tweets like Wetzel's above and other stuff from Thamel that really got me pissed about this whole situation.
"...and make some money." FOH with this.
Other outlets with sources close to Addison, USC, and USC's "collective" have said the NIL offer is between $2mil to $5mil. Wetzel makes it sound like it was afterthought meal money because I guess Lincoln Riley won't talk to him anymore if he doesn't.
And this isn't a dig at NIL. Players should be compensated.
The issue is that the system is so loose that:
1) it allows these booster collectives to take it seamlessly from "compensation from name, image, likeness" to "pay for play" (who the eff is making their money back on Addison's "name, image, and likeness"),
2) and it gives swine like Riley immediate plausible deniability. The offer & the money comes from the collective so of course Lincoln doesn't know a thing about it until, aw shucks, the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner just showed up on his doorstep as the transfer portal deadline was closing. I'm sure that was all on the up-and-up.
It's been apparent for years that CFB bigwigs, the networks, and their national media partners have been just fine with college football becoming completely centered around like 15 or so P5 programs. If programs like Miami, FSU, VT, UCLA, and Tennessee ever get their $**** together, make it 20. Willfully-ignorant crap like the this from Wetzel and Thamel passing it off as "he wanted to play with his buddy from the tri-state area" is more evidence of that.
And yes, it's up to each program to get it's own booster-donor collective in place. But the same disparity that already exists even at the P5 level will be relatively the same with the NIL collectives, and it sounds like that very well may have played out here. Pitt had at least two other players that other programs were attempting to poach - supposedly Kancey and Hill. It sounds like both are staying, but it's not hard to see the slippery slope here. The gap between those 15-20 "haves" at the P5 level & everyone else just became even more of a chasm, and I'm not sure this one is something the have-nots can manage so easily.
Players should be compensated & should get what they're worth. If USC...ahem, USC's boosters decide Addison is worth a $3 million or $5 million or $15 million NIL deal, it's their money, not mine and good for him. But where is the protection for the program losing the player here? This is going to happen to everyone, P5 bluebloods included, but it's going to happen over and over to any program that can't bring the booster resources to the table that a Bama, Texas, or USC can. And hey, good for those fanbases for supporting their programs like that, I guess. But it was ridiculously easy to see where this was all going to go.
That's why I'm so frustrated with this and why other Pitt fans are so frustrated. For a program like Pitt, it takes the right mix of coaching, recruiting, and development to get to conference title contention, let alone work themselves into the CFB playoff discussion. And if/when they get to that point, they're still fighting an uphill "perception" battle vs. blueblood programs. To now see a landscape where those bluebloods can just swoop in & take the top players your program develops so easily just sucks.
But whatever. #H2P.

Wetzel can go choke on a bag of dicks. Addison had a solid NIL here and Pitt matched the original money offered by USC, a garbage ass program that I look forward to wanting to absolute worst for. College players deserve to be compensated but getting more than NFL draft picks is crazy **** ****.

Only thing that would make this better is if he was going to PSU.

Yeah, that Wetzel tweet and Uben tweet are dumb. Mandel is another major idiot.

I'm more pissed that usc set all this crap up even before he was in the portal. That is against the rules and **** won't be done about it.It's sucks Addison is leaving but he is using the system that is in place. I don't understand wishing ill on him.
If Addison would have just went in the portal a few weeks ago and then worked with other schools to get a better nil deal, then so be it.

Based on the insider reports, he’s basically been an AB level diva throughout the spring and the team and coaching staff has tried to keep him placated. He has a laundry list of social media adds over the last month, leading to the assumption that he’s been shopping his services to one degree or another while not being in the transfer portal. Waited until the absolute last minute to leave the program despite them matching USC’s offer. USC and their very obvious tampering, along with a completely unregulated free for all of a system, is largely to blame, but Addison definitely did not go about things appropriately on his end. It's sucks Addison is leaving but he is using the system that is in place. It's hard to fault a 20 year old getting millions flashed in his face. I blame USC for tampering. All for NIL - but even pro sports enforce tampering rules.

Don't disagree with this either. That said he's 20 and getting flashed millions in his face. I guess I just don't get wishing him to tear an ACL and all of the other things I've read online. Just seems pretty silly.

I mean, if you have a chance to go play at USC and make millions doing it. I'm there in a heartbeat. Doesn't matter to me how I got there, but I'm going lol, especially comparing it to Pitt where you're already big man on campus.

I hope he already spent more money than he would have after taxes and has to sell his ACC Championship ring to make ends meet.
