He outran them because they stopped. Picture him in a red jersey and you will see it.
If he was going to outrun their pursuit why waste energy and scrub speed with a fake slide?
In the law we would call it unjust enrichment. The rule was put in place special to protect him and he broke the rule to the detriment of the opposition.
The refs blew it. Luckily it didn't matter since at the end both QB's were throwing TD's to Pitt.

I think we all agree that the fake slide is frowned upon, but within the boundaries of the rules. WF players definitely quit on the play, which is a big no-no.
Now. The real debate we should be having is…where does that play sit in the City of Pittsburgh football lore? meow says top 5

Immaculate reception is the obvious #1.
James Harris INT and return in Super Bowl
Holmes’s catch in that same Super Bowl
From there? I don’t know enough about Pitt football to make a guess, but those 3 are certainly in the top 5.

I don't think anything done against...Wake Forest...will resonate through history for anyone but the most die hard of Pitt football fans.

Well, the question is about Pittsburgh football lore. I can name 10 Steeler moments that rank higher than the refs missing a call in an eventual blowout against Wake Forest in the ACC Championship that year Clemson fell asleep at the switch.
Yesterday was fun and well earned. But if the scale is greatest moments of all time, let's be real.

I looked up the rule:I think we all agree that the fake slide is frowned upon, but within the boundaries of the rules.
Terry McAuley believes it should have called dead. So, no, there is not universal agreement on the call. Outside of Pittsburgh, that is.NCAA Rule 4, Section 1, Article 3(r) states: "A live ball becomes dead and an official shall sound their whistle or declare it dead (w)hen a ball carrier obviously begins a feet-first slide."

Exactly. Wasn’t obviously a feet first slide. There. End of discussion

Yeah, not trying to be a jag (it comes naturally, hey oh). Pitt won by a wide margin and deserves the accolades, KSP is fun to watch and I selfishly hope he plays pro ball in Pittsburgh. I was rooting for Pitt and am happy they won. I just take issue with that one sequence and apparently the implication that it has historical significance.Dodint bringing the truth bombs.
In my opinion, it was an unsportsmanlike play that shouldn't be lauded by fair-minded people. But, Pittsburgh does stuff like that, reminds me of celebrating a bus falling into a sinkhole. It's a black eye held up as quirky and cute.

Recognizing you’re being a **** jag is the first step towards remedying the situation. You know. If you care to.

#1) did Pickett begin a slide
#2) did Fuqua touch the ball before Harris
In that order

Any word on what bowl/opponent awaits Pitt? Is it Peach bowl since Orange is a semi-final game?

Peach bowl vs Notre Dame… would be a hell of a game.Any word on what bowl/opponent awaits Pitt? Is it Peach bowl since Orange is a semi-final game?
I’ve also seen projections of them playing Mich St. but most point to Pitt vs ND.

MSU would be a very good matchup for us. Their strength is the run game and they have a piss poor secondary

Too bad Terry McAuley wasn't the ref in the game yesterday lol. What he thinks means nothing.I looked up the rule:I think we all agree that the fake slide is frowned upon, but within the boundaries of the rules.

I’d rather play MSU because I can’t stand the legacy ND fans in this city.
