You know what really grinds my gears...

Postby tifosi77 » Tue Sep 18, 2018 1:02 pm

The PA DMV. I was gathering the required documentation to apply for a REAL ID, and noticed that I don't have my original, government-issued birth certificate, just the 'Record of Birth' from the hospital. Whatever, I have an expired US Passport, so I figure I can use that. Nope! Only unexpired US Passports can be used, which makes no god damn sense, given that I can apply for a US Passport Card with an expired US Passport. So there's $30 down the drain for having to purchase a new copy of my birth certificate.
Expired passports can prove citizenship, not identity. That's why you can use an expired one to get a new passport card, but not REAL ID card.

And that ID requirement is not the PA DMV, it's a federal law.

Then change my initial post to the federal gov't.

Then why can I use my passport to fly domestically?

For domestic travel, airlines will accept expired passports. But I think it's only good for a limited period of time post-expiration.

You can travel domestically without ID as well.

Only if the TSA can verify your identity by other means, and that's not a given.

Also, starting in I think 2020 you will be required to have a REAL ID or equivalent (meaning something that required you to prove your citizenship and identity to obtain) to fly domestically.

That’s precisely why I’m applying for the Real ID. I don’t want to have to carry around a passport.

I had a few minutes this morning, so decided to start picking fights with people in the Altoona Facebook group spreading anti-vaxx bullsht. I'm going to regret this, no question.

Defensive football players on 3rd and 23 who tackle a guy after picking up 8 yards, and then they hold up their first to indicate 4th down. Good for you, sparky.

UPS/Fed Ex/USPS deliveries that are placed in front of our garage door. If I'm leaving the house, I don't always check to see if there is a package there. Or at night, I may not see it driving in if it's small enough. Some day I'm going to run a package over and I'm going to be salty.

The drivers are too lazy to walk up 10 steps and leave it at our door.

We had an Amazon soft pack delivered yesterday that appeared to have been thrown at our house from the street, old-timey paper route style.

I am pretty sure I've complained about this before, but even so it bears repeating. On Route 100 South in Chester County, it eventually merges into 202 South, and two lanes merge into one as it goes into the 202 on-ramp.

Anyone that grasps basic driving concepts and rules of the road knows that you are supposed to USE BOTH LANES TO MERGE POINT. Without fail, every fcking morning, you have a line of cars a mile and a half long all stopped in the right lane because everyone obsessively merges early, and the left lane is wide open. Because I understand that you aren't supposed to merge that early like a dummy, I will move up the left lane at a safe speed until the actual merge. This morning, some butch woman in a Subaru swung her car out in my lane and just stopped there to block me; the road was wet and I slid about 15 feet, almost hitting her. All so she could make a point that ISN'T EVEN FCKING CORRECT. People stopping and panic merging early into the right lane is how congestion and accidents are caused.

A woman was murdered at this same merge only a few years ago. Because you can't count on drivers to know the fcking rules of the road, I actually submitted a request to PennDOT to have the "use both lanes" signs added to that road. People in this stupid state are so conditioned to move over extra early out of some misguided sense of courtesy, when it only makes things worse for everyone. If you schmucks want to merge early, be my guest. And if I hit you because you pull your car out to block the road, guess who will be at fault?
