Is it manadatory for an 18 wheeler, when trying to pass someone, drop their speed by 10+ mph once they get into the passing lane, while on an interstate?

I was just on I-95 for about 40 miles, and ran into three such ass clowns moving into the left lane at 75 mph or so, and drop to 60-65 in the passing lane. One guy didn’t have the stones to pass the car, and actually slowed down and got back over.

Couple of possibilities here, in no real order of probability:

1.) When it pulls out from behind the lead truck and moves to pass, it lost its draft and doesn't have the power to get around once it meets the increased air resistance. More common with older trucks (similar to item 3).

2.) Trucks have governors that don't allow them to exceed a certain speed, which is relatively low. Truckers are VERY concerned with gas mileage as it's tied to their performance and pay, so putting the pedal down might be impossible or they simply don't do it because of the extra fuel required. They want to get by as slowly as possible and then resume the speed for optimal MPG.

3.) They may have begun their pass on a flat plane but if the roadway shifts to an incline/hill it may no longer be capable of making the pass, and now they're stuck with the other vehicle in the lane to their right. Happens very often on the PA Turnpike near Cranberry when the flat plain of northern Ohio changes into the rolling hills of western PA.

It can be a combination of those, as well.

Generally people need to be more cognizant of trucks around them and make certain concessions. If a truck to the left of a vehicle for several miles it would help everyone if the vehicle to the right would move forward or backward the 40 feet and give the trucker an option of moving over that doesn't involve using more gas or even worse, the brakes.

I understand your frustration, though. I was stuck behind a jagoff in a U-haul in the far left (third) lane between exits 57 and 39 on the PA turnpike. If I wasn't in the Delorean I might've been rude to them.

1) Hm my truck always seems to slow down when I go to the left lane - solution, don't go in the left lane
2) my truck only goes 70mph and the car in front of me is going 69 (nice) - solution, stay in the right lane
3) There seems to be a hill coming up which will slow my ginormous vehicle down - solution, stay in the right lane

That is my pet peeve on the turnpike (trucks and cars), because it then results in a huge wad of cars in a small area on an otherwise sparse traffic day

Duquesne Light couldn't/wouldn't process my online service request for the apartment I'm moving into because I didn't pay the security deposit.

Problem is, they don't give you an option to pay the deposit when requesting new service. What's even the point of having the online request form then? How is anyone supposed to know to pay that if you don't specify it?
