I never use my debit card as a debit card, either. My should I when I have credit cards that offer benefits, and I pay them off every month.

Not only are the benefits obvious, but if something goes wrong - like the card number is stolen and/or there's some kind of fraud - that's your money. A credit card is their money...

It frustrates me in Europe though at some automated ticket machines that require a pin and therefore cannot use American credit cards. Have to use the debit card. About the only time that happens though

Compelling points have been made here about debit vs. credit card use. We have an Amazon Visa that we use for uh Amazon purchases, but that's it. I might just have to look into this credit card churn thing you people get on about.

Debit cards are useful for the ATM (in the US). That's it. Nothing more. Make money with your money by maximizing your rewards.

Debit card for ATM and when my cc was being rejected. Any other time, that debit card is collecting dust.
In college I used my debit card quite a bit as I did not have a cc at the time. Probably a good thing as it made me very aware of how much was in my bank account.

Yeah, for younger kids, etc. it's a good way to manage your spending. But this audience is all old farts with stable careers, etc.

Some kids should use debit. Some should use credit cards. I was not a knucklehead and got a credit card very young. My credit score today thanks younger meow

My dog shitting in my car on the way to get groomed. I had a diaper on him so he didn't piss anywhere, but that didn't stop him from taking a big dump. *sigh*

the concept of people spending money they don’t have with credit cards actually bewilders me. like the APR for them is so terrible; why would you consider spending more than you can allow outside of emergencies?

I don't know if it's our new-ish location, but all of a sudden Amazon is requiring us to return items to a UPS Store or Access Point for returning merchandise. It seemed like we always could print out a label and ship it back in a UPS drop box or pickup, but no longer. And judging from how many people are doing the same thing while I'm at the UPS Store, I'm not the only one experiencing this. Anyone else?

That's what I did last time I returned something. Doesn't bother me, in a way it's easier since I don't have to box it up or anything. Just go to the counter and show my barcode. And the funds were on their way back before I got to my car. But my UPS store is right next to my Giant Eagle so it's not really out of the way for me.

Sometimes people are stupid. (I was like this when I was young). Other times people have no choice. There are lots of people in shitty financial situations that have no choice but to rack up CC to pay bills or what not.the concept of people spending money they don’t have with credit cards actually bewilders me. like the APR for them is so terrible; why would you consider spending more than you can allow outside of emergencies?

Yep. Earlier this week I was sent the wrong item (clear lights rather than orange lights for Halloween). I tried to do the return online and they wanted to charge me $7.99 for a pickup. I chatted with a rep who scheduled a free pick up "this time", but I was still peeved.I don't know if it's our new-ish location, but all of a sudden Amazon is requiring us to return items to a UPS Store or Access Point for returning merchandise. They aren't borrowing the money, they're borrowing the time...the concept of people spending money they don’t have with credit cards actually bewilders me. like the APR for them is so terrible; why would you consider spending more than you can allow outside of emergencies?
When you're struggling and/or your income is a little bit random (people that live on tips, people that are self-employed, etc.), buying that time is so valuable. If you can defer some costs, even with ridiculous penalty, it's "worth it"...because you don't know if tomorrow is worth $0 or $1500...

Or some people dont realize the consequences until its too late. A long while ago i dated a girl who racked up credit card debt when she was right out of college. She said basically she didnt quite understand what she was spending and it just caught up to her.
Saying you dont understand how people end up in credit card debt imo is no different than saying i dont understand why people get fat or end up in abusive relationships or pregnant at 20 years old or end up quitting a job with no other job lined up or whatever silly situation people end up in.

I feel like MIMH grew up not being poor, or not knowing what it was like to have parents even live paycheck to paycheck.

lol there’s plenty of people who get into major credit card debt without struggling with money. I’m talking about the people who don’t understand the concept of borrowing money
but I’m glad you got a chance to condescend ktk
