No thankfully it's just kitchen and laundry that's affected. The work's all being done apart from the connection to the bathroom returns. (Or whatever they're called. I have no idea. I just know it's not a poo flowing situation.)

Washing machine flooded the laundry area. Persisted for a couple weeks until we finally called the plumber. He came out and determined that the line connecting the east end of the house (kitchen and laundry) to the lateral that connects to the main city line was non-existent. Like, the pipe has just completely rotted away and any water that drains from the appliances just runs out into the earth under the house. And we're a slab foundation, hence the jackhammers.

And also, you don't really realize how much you use your kitchen sink until you cannot use your kitchen sink for a week.

I was dreading not having a kitchen sink for 4+ weeks while we waited for our countertops to be made. For some reason unbeknownst to the entire world, I had an epiphany and put the old countertop/sink on top of the new cabinets and saved ourselves the misery. We were planning on having two big buckets to do dishes outside, otherwise.

I haven't lived in the Bay Area since early 2019, but thanks for noticing.

Did you just stack the old counters on and let gravity hold them in place temporarily?

Gravity and the new cabinets. Never took the sink out of the old countertop, took it all out as one

Turns out when the previous homeowners updated the house in 2013 they didn't touch the plumbing. Original cast iron pipes from 1961, so that's 60 years of Drain-O corroded a 2-finger wide crack that ran the entire 18' length of pipe. Wooty woot woot. And in another fit of awesome, that 18' length of pipe runs all the way into the front bathroom where it connects to the lateral. So they have to jackhammer up the bathroom floor, too. We were planning on renovating the bathrooms in this house at some time, but we aren't really in a position now to do that now given the expense of this repair. So we're gonna go out of pocket to a significant degree and still have vinyl floors and ugly tile in that bathroom.

Two days, six crew, one rental hydraulic press, and $5,168.28 later and I can use my kitchen sink again. Finishing guy comes in today to start work on laying concrete and putting new flooring in over the jackhammered bits, and re-stuccoing the exterior wall.

Ouch. Reminds me of a conversation I had with my son yesterday. He wanted to know how much I pay per day for our house (funny question, but he's 8). I said a house is more than just paying for the building. It's upkeep, insurance, interest, utilities, etc. Makes you wonder if you really do come out on the positive side of things when you sell it.

Pittsburgh airport still has a ton of 6’ social distancing signage everywhere, except the baggage claim where American has flights from PHX, DFW and PHL all arriving at the same time and it’s a total cluster.

6 belts on this side of the airport and 5 are always empty. Just the one in the far corner where it is a zoo all the time.

Probably posted before but god damn does this trigger me.

Baggage claim at PIT has always been a nightmare. Nothing I enjoy more after a long business trip and long flight than waiting an extra 45-60 minutes for my baggage to arrive. Then wait another 15 minutes for the extended parking shuttle.

They better fix this crap when the new airport is built.

Yeah, the wait for bag claim at PIT has always been longer than average, not quite Orlando but bad. If I didn't have to put the beer I buy on biz trips in a checked bag I would rarely check anything.

One time they lost my bag in IAH because it fell off the conveyor inside the tunnel and someone had to go in and get it. "Yeah this system hasn't been changed since the airport was built in the '60s."
