Yeah, it's been like that for a while for me I feel like...it's probably a 20-second a week app at this point, mostly just to see if it's anyone-that-I-like's birthday...

Still insanely popular for lots of people. But I only use it to keep track of the olds in my orbit, and that's about it.

This is basically what it's like for me now. Spend a minute or two seeing what's going on with friends, get sick of the ads, exit.Yeah, it's been like that for a while for me I feel like...it's probably a 20-second a week app at this point, mostly just to see if it's anyone-that-I-like's birthday...

I will admit, I did buy something from a facebook ad recently...it's this weird cat fur picker upper thing for furniture...$14 or something, works like absolute gangbusters. I know a lot of that stuff is late-night-TV garbage, but this was actually a win...

lol, I get that same ad constantly. Already own one, though, and can also confirm that it works well. I think I've purchased one item in total over the years based on a FB ad.I will admit, I did buy something from a facebook ad recently...it's this weird cat fur picker upper thing for furniture...$14 or something, works like absolute gangbusters. It's funny. Their own statistics show both that the most frequent......... consumers? of advertising and most active sharers of content (particularly news, or even 'news') are 50+. But also that by the largest age demos that cover daily active users spans late teens to mid-40s.Listen to old man Tif referring to others as "the olds."Still insanely popular for lots of people. But I only use it to keep track of the olds in my orbit, and that's about it.
Which shows rather conclusively that people born after the early 70s or so are smarter about how they engage with social media.

Somewhat related: one of the articles in the "News" section of Facebook yesterday was about Trader Joe's and how every summer they offer some ube products. I will try anything ube, because that stuff is absolutely delicious, so I went this morning and picked up both ube pancake & waffle mix as well as ube tea cookies (already tried, very tasty). They told me that they're getting their ube ice cream delivery tonight, so I'll be returning tomorrow to grab that, too.
Thanks, FB, you were finally useful for something positive.

I just discovered that the term “lede” is spelled so because journalists wanted to differentiate it from the lead that was printed on newspapers
leave it to journalists to not understand how homonyms work

Mine has been more recommended Reels, Groups, and then ads. I think it's a combination of my friends being less active overall on the platform and Zuck changing the algo for advertising. I'll spin through there a few times a day, no longer than 30-45 seconds. That's more than enough imo.Did FB change everyone’s feed in the last few weeks? Mine is quite literally 75%+ ads now.

We are how many years into Real ID, and even if you already have one, you still can’t just go to any drivers license center to get it renewed and pick it up same day. You have to go to one of 13 locations to do it. Two of which are within 50 miles of Pittsburgh - Bridgeville and Jeanette. Otherwise they will mail it to you in 2 weeks. Wtaf?
So now you waited 3 weeks for the camera card plus another two on top?

Are you disenfranchised from voting now...?

That’s what you get for getting a Real ID.

Well it's mandatory* to travel without a passport even in the US
*at whatever point PA gets their **** together, and then maybe another 2 years

PA got its **** together. It's the feds that have been pushing back the Real ID deadline (now May 2025, I believe).
I got one because it will also be necessary to enter federal facilities, I need to be able to enter federal courthouses, and I'd rather not need to carry my passport for that.
A gear-grinding part of the application process is that a passport, by itself, is not enough to apply for a Real ID. But a passport by itself will be sufficient to substitute for a Real ID for anything one would otherwise need a Read ID to do.

My Real ID came in the mail in like 5 days, IIRC.

I get it in theory - while they require the same proof of identity and residency, they are issued by different authorities. But in practice it's a PITA.
The one time you have to do it.

I don’t know why you guys are so limited in where you can go out there, because we have plenty of centers here that can process it. The hard part was just gathering the paperwork.

I love how the real ID **** has been pushed back what…4 years?
the best part about it is I got a new photo where I lost like 30 pounds from my original NC license in 2015. I also had a playoff beard so people who look at it get confused
