People who leave half-assed reviews on sites like Angie's List. I need some electrical work done, so I'm trying to figure out how much I expect to pay, but reviews like 'electrical work done' are next to useless. Why are you bothering at that point?

People who get their electric work done via Angie's list ( I don't know what Angie's list is)

Basically just a home service aggregator. They had cheesy commercials back in the day, but I've actually found a number of really good contractors using them.

Oh, well I take back my comments then. Best of luck, electrical work scares me. A couple of little shocks will do that to a chap

I can run the romex myself, but it'd be a little tricky getting it to the area where the thermostat is going. And since I need an actual electrician to make the connection, I almost have no choice here.
You know what really grinds my gears...
Why do you need an electrician for that? I'm just curious, because wiring up a thermostat isn't difficult. I replaced one for my folks at their last house.

Sorry, it's for Nuheat floor heating mats (under tile). 240v direct connection to their thermostat, so not like a traditional furnace thermostat. Why do you need an electrician for that? Oof, yeah I'm not touching 240 either, lol.

Yeah, this is something I'm more than happy to let an electrician handle.

Had a really strange electricity related dream last night. One of the lab technicians at work was being electrocuted as he was plugging in test equipment that he improperly wired. As I was yelling to not help him, the other technician grabbed a hold of him and also began to be electrocuted.
Somehow they pulled away from the circuit and just went on with their business as if nothing had happened.

Quote from a local company that does this work often came in at $440. That's well under what I had expected, so I'm moving forward with the entire project. The flooring itself came in $3k lower than the 'guestimate' I got over the phone.

In other news, I received my speed enforcement camera ticket yesterday. 6 lane roadway and the speed limit is 45. GTFO with that ****.

This is true. I went to pay the fine online and they add a $4 convenience fee if you do so. That's a load of **** right there. Have fun cashing in a check instead.

Convenience fee is always backwards. The fee should be attached if you want to live in the 1950s and send a check. Should be called an inconvenience fee and done properly.

We've had a lot of businesses recently start charging a 3-4% convenience fee for using a debit or credit card, to offset bank charges.Convenience fee is always backwards. I loathe them, but I get it. Sort of.

I can understand when it's a debit or credit card, although it's still dumb but I get it because they are missing a bite. I hate when they want to charge from bank to bank. I get there is a transaction price involved there but I've seen those analysis reports and it's not anywhere near even 1% (a crumb).

It doesn't cost them to deposit a check in their account but it does cost them to take payments with credit cards.Convenience fee is always backwards. The fee should be attached if you want to live in the 1950s and send a check. Should be called an inconvenience fee and done properly.

That's what I said in response to DG. I get card transactions, although the fee they pay is usually under 2% when it's a card.It doesn't cost them to deposit a check in their account but it does cost them to take payments with credit cards.Convenience fee is always backwards. I'm glad we credit card companies charge fees to businesses because those charges help pay for NTP's free trips to Hawaii.

The $4 fee is a minimum of 4%, much higher than card transaction fees.

The problem with 'convenience fees' is that they are also applied if you do an EFT from a checking account, sans processing fee.
And I would think whatever de minimis amount is charged by the credit card company is offset by not having to pay a human for the time to handle a physical check.
