Dodged a bullet there.
Yep.

My biggest red flag ever came with a different couple. They drove in from Pittsburgh to meet with me. The groom was a ****** of the first order and extremely condescending while the bride was a sweetheart. Near the end of the meeting, the groom said, "I'd like to know what you'll be wearing to the wedding so we can decide if you'll be seated with our guests." I was literally at a loss for words. As soon as they left, I texted the bride and said I was sorry but I didn't think I was a good fit for them. I'd love to know if they're still married. She deserved much better.
Woof. 5% chance they’re still married.

Car inspections are a racket. I just dropped my 2 year old Honda off to be inspected. Next week, I have to bring in our weeks old brand new RAV4. Why do I have to pay $150 to get inspection stickers on two new cars?

I thought I read somewhere that PA was looking to ditch the emissions inspection because something like 99.5 of cars pass the emissions inspection, which makes sense in this day and age of car tech.

:thumb: I'd be cool with requiring inspections on vehicles over 10 years old. Or even only on vehicles produced before a certain date.

While I do seem to notice more rustbucket vehicles in Ohio, which doesn't require inspection, I can't imagine that there are many more accidents there due to unsafe conditions a PA safety inspection would pick up. My understanding is that you can be cited in OH for driving an unsafe vehicle, so I guess if you cause an accident because your tires were bald or brakes were worn, you get an extra fine. I'd be good with that risk that Jimmy Joe Bob from Ravenna ain't changed his brakes in 70,000 miles.

Just another racket in PA. I have two Decembers and a January, saving some $ because the December got fewer than 5,000 miles since last inspection so it's exempt from emissions (which you still have to pay for the exemption sticker, BTW) and the January is new and came with lifetime free inspections. Still I'll be shelling out.

There was a study conducted in NC that showed the safety inspection program did not correlate with a lower rate of auto crashes or deaths.

I put an appointment calendar block on my schedule for tomorrow at 11 but I can’t remember for the life of me what I made it for . Very frustrating

we don't have state inspections in GA. if you live in metro ATL you do have to have an emissions inspection but that's only $25 and if your car is over a certain age you don't have to anymore.

Nope. Not since 1997 or so.

They were a joke and not regulated well. I remember waiting for a mechanic to finish up with my car, and a guy comes in and says he needs to get his car inspected. The mechanic took the guy's money, filled out the inspection form, and handed it back to the guy. Never left the service bay or laid eyes on the car.

My car is up for inspection/emission, and I'm debating whether or not to ask them to not torque the god damn wheels to 200 ft-lbs like they did last time.

Our friends group kids pool is growing every year. We're up to probably like 8 kids now, mine included. Our one friend buys gifts for ALL THE KIDS every year and it's always pure junk. Like dollar store clearance crap. And she did it again this year, and my wife was like "we should pick names instead". It's not unreasonable. I refuse to buy junk for everyone. But let's be honest if I'm buying 8 gifts were all agreeing to be spending about $10 a piece, and at that level, you're getting junk. Just pick f'n names. One nice gift per kid. Let the kid give the gift to one person and get that joy also.

I do that. Ask them to tighten to specs.

Spec is 86. I know they want to get cars in and out, so even if it's a little over, that's fine. If I have to use a **** breaker bar, it's a problem.

I remember when I lived in Charlotte, NC, watching my brand new car come off the car hauler and into the inspection bay to get the inspection sticker put on it. Just an added cost that made no logical sense.

True of my chest: My van expired in June and I don't care. The BMW M6 I bought in late 2019? I never got it inspected. The stickers look stupid and I don't care for them. I think the van is plain enough to just blend in and the M6 screams white privilege so I'm just using that.

Cops in the city don't give a **** about your stickers. It's when you go to some horrible place like the North Hills that suddenly it matters.

You also have to pay property tax on your vehicles in NC every year. There goes $800 for little to no reason.

Still makes me laugh when I think about it - years ago my uncle's friend made an inspection sticker look-a-like from Uno cards. He got busted.
