Went from an estimated restoration of power at 7:40 to 9:30 to “assessing damage to underground lines”. Guess the fridge will have to be emptied tomorrow.

Heard a pop then the power went out, so this should be fun.
Better than hearing a pop then not being able to walk

It's in concrete storage for off peak hours.

I was thinking the same thing.

A few years ago I bought a portable generator from harbor freight just big enough to run our freezer and sump pump.

I left the generator in the garage since most of our outages are less than four hours, and the fact that they were on the scene within 20 minutes made me believe it'd be restored quickly. Then, it was pushed back to 9:30 and I didn't want to run the generator at 9pm, so I left it in the garage. Next time, I'll just break it out right away to keep the fridge and freezer running as long as I can before powering down.

@Beveridge: You need batteries to store that energy, and it wasn't worth an extra $15k to us. Still isn't.

At any rate, the power came back on shortly after 11pm. Looks like they ran a temporary line from the pole down the street to our underground box, so we're definitely in for another outage when they return for the permanent fix.

Gametime can get f*cked with its fees. Looked up tickets for the Wells Fargo PGA event and Gametime had them for “””$78””””….though after fees they were $123. $35 in fees which is nearly half the price of the ticket

The apps have a "with fees" setting...

the other apps with fees I use (SeatGeek and Ticketmaster) have them at the ticket level, not at the profile level so it’s very non-apparent that that was a setting at all. Which means it’s bad UX (user experience). Which is also gear grinding

TickPick is far and away the best re-sale app

I always use TickPick. That way I can see up front what it's gonna cost and I can say OK or Hell No right away rather than getting to entering my card before deciding.

I don't know why they don't dominate the industry. Maybe not enough people know about them I guess? Or don't buy tickets often?

Nah, it's because other apps do that too...at least the ones that I use. You know there's gonna be fees...so, I just make sure I have it set so that I can see them upfront - whether that's "include fees" or "all-in pricing" or whatever the respective apps call it...

from my experience TickPick is usually he cheapest option. Even if there are fees (1) they are still relatively cheaper all in and (2) they don’t play any games with “are there or are there not fees”

I’m guessing you have a financial stake in apps with annoying fees based on how you’re defending them

Yeah, I agree with mihm. When I look for tickets I usually use SeatGeek or StubHub. I’m actually looking for tickets to a minor league game this weekend, and also looked at TickPick, which I haven’t used before seeing it mentioned here. SeatGeek gives the option of including fees. StubHub sucks and doesn’t show you the total of fees until after you put a credit card in. TickPick just gives an all-in price, which was about 20% cheaper than SeatGeek. Obviously just one experience, but I’ll definitely just start with TickPick next time.

TIL some people just enjoy some level of rigamarole involved with obtaining the actual price of tickets.

I'm not defending the apps, I'm just saying that this representation isn't my experience...

Just checked StubHub - setting: Price Display Options -> Include Estimated Fees
GameTime - setting: All-In Pricing
Dice - No fees or fee included in price
Seatgeek - setting: Include fees

It's such an obvious setting (or in some of the cases, a default), that I'm surprised anyone would use it to complain about one app over another. I guess it's like people that tune into the Super Bowl at 6 pm and then when it's 6:21 and they haven't seen a second of football, they yelp "what the hell is going on?"

Whimsical dementia...?

Still don’t see that option in StubHub… don’t doubt it’s there, but not seeing a settings area. I think the point remains, why not just make it as simple and straightforward as possible to begin with.

Why is gas expressed with nine-tenths of a cent? You don't sticker shock people out of the conversation by default when they're paying.

Now, if any app didn't have that setting (TicketMaster might not actually, I didn't check that one because I don't use it to buy), then yeah...that's a **** app and don't use it.

But every app, I was 0 to 2 clicks away (while not even logged into them, I didn't use my own settings just to make sure I didn't taint the use cases) from having 100% of the information.

StubHub you seem to have to do it each time you search an event, rather than just making it a general setting. None of this is seismic in any way. But if you’re talking about app with easy user experience, and you want the easiest one, it’s not one where you have to click through to get what you want.

Yeah for what it's worth, I can't find a global setting for it on Stubhub either. As far as gear grinding goes, ticket/processing fees is a legit gripe.

because those apps benefit from users thinking the fee price is nominal. So if they can make the fee views a little harder to find, they can “trick” users into not thinking about the fees as much

it’s what a lot of these “middle man” apps do these days. Uber/Lyft, Grubhub/Doordash, Airbnb/vrbo, etc. they enter the market with relatively low fees and simplified pricing, get users to trust them and then they push their fee % up and make the pricing a little more abstract hoping users won’t mind it

anyway, to mikey’s assertion that TickPick is similar to the others, let’s do some price comparisons:

Wells Fargo Championship (easiest to compare since all tickets are GA; for the Thursday round):

- Tickpick: $108
- Gametime: $123 (advertised as $79)
- SeatGeek: $127 (advertised as $86)
- Ticketmaster: $104 (advertised as $90). Kind of surprised Ticketmaster wins here

Let’s look at the Stars-GKs game 6 (cheapest ticket to get into the arena for 1 person):

- TickPick: $122 for upper bowl corner section row J
- Gametime: $139 for upper bowl corner section row H (advertised as $100)
- SeatGeek: $138 for upper bowl corner section row E (advertised as $101)
- Ticketmaster: $148 for upper bowl corner section row M (advertised as $122)

And for completeness let’s look at a Clippers-Mavericks game 6 (cheapest single ticket):

- Tickpick: $168 for upper bowl corner row D
- Gametime: $182 for upper bowl corner row H (advertised as $118)
- SeatGeek: $185 for upper bowl corner row M (advertised as $125)
- Ticketmaster: $176 for upper bowl corner row C (advertised as $140)

TickPick is far and away the best for cheapness AND price transparency
