Snell is in, so they want right handed hitters in. So that explains Moran's absence. Polanco too, although he's been just bad.

Not sure why Reynolds isn't allowed to play CF. Surely, he's better than the Difo, who hasn't played much there lately.

Will Craig and Cole Tucker are not good enough to make that lineup. Two first round picks worse than the scrubbiest of scrubs. Thanks GMNH.

The amazing thing about this right handed heavy line up is that it stinks worse than the lefty lineup.

That 3-4–5 combo is unreal

Now I get a notification at 9:30pm instead of 10pm that the Pirates played today

Smart, actually. Tough for people to get to games after work, but good to get a few more kids on a school night to games. To grow the game, they need (younger) eyeballs in the stadium.

I saw some Pirate writer share some blurb about Musgrove talking to management this past offseason. Something along the lines of the players telling the front office that they believed they were close to being competitive (for reasons), and BC responding by trading Bell, Musgrove and Taillon shortly thereafter.

First, I don't think adding those three back to the pirates changes much, and second, they were the worst team by far in the short season. So I don't think transitioning to trying to compete was going to happen.

That said, I think there's been more positives than negatives thus far.
Evans emerging as everyday starter
Reynolds bouncing back
RichRod looking like a marketable back-end BP arm
Keller and Brubaker showing signs of being long-term rotation options.
Stallings becoming an above average starter

Newman is the bum we thought he was going to be. Alford and Polanco are somehow playing below expectations when no one was expecting anything out of them. And Moran producing at the point that will force us to have to deal with more Colin Moran all season.

Musgrove might have been Just A Guy when he was here (above a replacement player, not good, about as valuable as Colin Moran with a less hateable personality/facial hair) but he was a competitive guy. So it shouldn't surprise anyone if he genuinely believed that a Musgrove/Bell/Taillon core could compete. And I don't blame him for thinking that way either.

But the reality is that Musgrove has a limited ceiling, Taillon was getting to "pricey" (and I use that term loosely because he wasn't pricey in real baseball terms) with injury liabilities, and while I love josh bell, he just isn't a guy that will be a core contributor to a playoff team. Even if you added, say, $60 million of payroll per year to those guys, it isn't much of a playoff contender.

And this is all we can ever say about Moran.

Musgrove is also a unrepentant cheater from his Astros days.
