IMO, the only reason Butler hangs around, is because Tomlin calls the plays, and firing him gives that up for the time being.

I have a feeling that management has been hands off on the defense, since it's been good all these years, and the offense they dip their feet in more.

Re Butler

Team defensive rankings:

3rd overall in yards allowed, 2nd overall in yards/play, 2nd overall in takeaways (3rd overall in interceptions), 2nd overall in 1st downs allowed, 1st overall in pass completions allowed, 3rd overall in passing yards allowed. They were lower down in rush defense, but still top-10 adjacent in most categories.

Why exactly are we bagging on Butler again?

All those points given up in the playoff game?

I'm thinking the Steelers are a lot like the Canadian hockey franchises in that they are too proud to tank. I just don't see them going 1-15 or whatever. I don't think the Rooneys would tolerate such nonsense.

A defensive TD on the first snap of the game, 4 total turnovers in the first half that lead to 21 CLE points, a 100-year old QB throwing 4 picks............

That's on Butler?

It hurts to say this, but for around 10 years now the Steelers have been living off of legacy.

17 of those points were scored due to:
a snap over the QBs geriatric head
an interception by the QB returned to the stiller 15 yard line
An interception with 3 minutes left and returned to the stiller 23 yard line (lead to a field goal)

His offense could be good for Tua.

Sigh... cut Ben. Let them find out 100% Rudolph isn’t the guy, tank for who knows what QB. Cry.
Pretty much.
I mean........ I would hope it's already pretty obvious that Rudolph 100% isn't the guy. My advocacy for moving to him isn't out of an abundance of optimism about their prospects with him driving the offense. Sort of the opposite, actually.

Hate to say it, but they need a year or two of....... how to put this......... high draft picks. It looks like the Jets winning a few games late has taken the Sam Darnold piece off the trade board (which makes me sad), and they have like 2 dozen free agents this offseason.

The Steelers are out of phase with the rest of the AFC North. I fear as a fanbase we're heading into a pretty dark era.
This is well put. Especially the part about the Steelers being out of phase with the rest of the division. Burrow, Mayfield, Jackson (who I'm still not sold on long term, but whatever) and then the dumpster fire that is our situation

Why does every hire have to have local ties, or seemingly it feels like it does?

Because Pittsburghers hate anything and anyone that isn’t from here.

Like Tom Donahoe who was the coach of my high school fb team. I'm sure the Catholic part helped too.

I'd like it if they just went best available hire. Not best available hire that has Pittsburgh ties.

This ain't Montreal, who cares if they don't know Yinzer.
