Cool, cool, cool. Maybe the Claypool became more of a diva thing that the Steelers posted on their own website actually is true.

Charles Barkley took a man out of police custody and threw him through a plate glass window, then told the judge he wished they were on the 10th floor.

If this is a scandal, we soff.

Jabal Sheard threw a dude through a glass door while at Pitt. We need more action.

Only time this stuff really should matter to me is if it impacts his on-field game, or causes him to be suspended. Otherwise, just win, baby.

They're about to be able to afford Richard Sherman soon at this pace

Typically go into camp with 90 guys. Every one of those scrubs has a dead money hit once they are cut.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, how is this possible? Camp players - even vets - technically aren't practicing under contract, and as such don't draw a 'salary' per se; they only get paid a weekly stipend. How can they count as dead money if they've never had any guaranteed money?

Honestly it beats the hell out of me. Spotrac shows the Steelers 2021 cap number carrying dead money cap hits of less than $10K for Josiah Coatney, Calvin Taylor, Trajan Bandy, Corliss Waitman, James Lockhart, John Houston, Leo Lewis, Christian Montano, and Spencer Nigh. I have no idea who any of those people are. Montano was cut in the middle of camp last year. Calvin Taylor was a camp cut last year, signed a reserve/future contract in January, and currently has the dead money cap hit from last year's cut and the dead money from his contract not being included in the Offseason Top 51 contracts. All of these guys seem to count something against the cap at some point and I don't get why.

I'm trying to wrap my gray matter around this. I thought dead cap was meant to be a mechanism to force teams to carry over unpaid guaranteed money on their books. How the frick does a camp cut meet that bar?

Unless you plan on playing him at safety don't bother... he's not quick enough to play corner anymore even with how smart he is.

Looking into this more, it seems to only happen once you’ve paid someone. UDFA’s like Calvin Taylor still get a paltry signing bonus and cutting them comes with a cost. John Battle was a reserve/future contract signing on a contract with no bonus, so he’s free to cut at any point. He did however have a dead money hit against the Jets cap the past two seasons due to his UDFA contract. I think practice squad cuts have dead money as well? I’m not sure. What I do know is that the Steelers had dead money hits from 57 players last year. Even guys who were cut and re-signed (Jordan Berry) had dead money. It’s all very dumb.

Which is why the attempted troll/Rickroll thing at the Chargers game 2 seasons ago was sooooooo stupid. It was like "Dude, we went full 'plaid' on the Towel waving like 2 seconds in."

I think the void years thing needs addressed. Teams shouldn't be able to sign dogshit contracts and seemingly be able to get out from underneath them. The only reason why it's OK this year is the cap went down, but I would hope this doesn't carry on in the future.

oof great piece dupree. very emotional. took me down the youtube route. so glad he came through and then even thrived here.

got me thinking about the ups and downs of pittsburgh fans. they can be very hard to enjoy games with. watching on tv with my dad, his blood pressure rising, focusing on one thing he thinks they should do and can't understand how they're not doing it. run the ball! take a bigger lead! how in 20 years can they not get a baserunning coach to teach them how to steal? my sister-in-law screaming Get Him with all her might each time an opposing runner goes 5 yards. grumbling, critiquing, getting pissed off. at the live games we're not like seattle fans. we rarely encourage our team when they're down. at hockey games we're too immersed, tense, to cheer them on. to pick them up. we sit quietly dejected. annoyed at the annoyed fans. some of us secretly holding on to hope for the miraculous comeback. but. when the team earns it. once they've taken the upper hand and are pouring it on "Lets Go Pens!" a collective relief. we're going to win. Take it! we're ready with our praise when it's deserved. we're thanking them for the release of tension and the return of hope. we're the best team in the league at those moments in our minds. maybe after back to back doubles to tie the game in the 9th "Let's Go Bucs!" when a pitcher drops the ball on the mound... but the rarest of all things - when they're 11-2 and stomping the other contender in the AFC. and they've just run the ball for 3 straight first downs in the third quarter. and they've really gosh darn impressed us. and we're damn proud. and another ring glints before our eyes. we'll finally do the rudy clap. and muster it up. Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go!
