I wonder what this means for JuJu since Ben was an advocate of him.
I think they work on Bud, and leave JuJu to FA.

They’re at $8MM in cap space after this. Still not a lot of room to do anything. I think Bud and JuJu are both out.

Lie to me, DD.

This makes me immensely sad, all but assuring the Steelers are out of the Sam Darnold business.

We have the most cap space in the NFL after this year, so I'm okay with this. We can eat that amount next yearCool, spreading it out for another 2 years. Keep pushing the tax collector down the road.
He's a first ballot HoFer, so I see why they did it, and I doubt they'd do this for anyone but the QB, but pull the band-aid like they've done with every other player.

I don't know if this is widely known, but next year will be Ben's last:
https://www.dkpittsburghsports.com/2021 ... update-fdlAccording to Peter King and Ben Roethlisberger's agent, Ryan Tollner, though he wasn't named, Roethlisberger's contract will void three days after the Super Bowl next season.
So, there's really no need to wonder if 2021 will be Roethlisberger's final season. It will.
When Roethlisberger's contract voids, he'll essentially become a free agent. But he's not going anywhere else. This will be his final NFL season.

DK quoting PK. Tough to find a thought I care less about.

Is it too early to complain about Ben's cap hit in 2022?

Think I saw something that said Ben will be the first QB to play 18 seasons for one franchise, so at least there's that

Tombrady had 18 seasons as the starter if you include his 2008 season where he only played one game. But if you're including Ben's season in 2019 where he only played two games and his upcoming 2021 season, then he's also at 18.
So more instagram nonsense.

This instagram didn't happen to mention only 2 players playing with Mario and Wayne did it?

Ben never had a season in which he wasn't QB1, that's the main differentiator imo. He may not have entered his rookie year as the starter, but he ultimately rattled off like a 15-game winning streak that year.
That's one of those things that boggles my mind about the success Tombrady has had. He couldn't win the starting job at Michigan until halfway through his senior season, and as the 199th overall was probably not projected to be a long-term starter in NE. And yet.

OTC gives the Steelers $5MM and change after Ben’s new deal.

Yikes. Saw several pundits stating that there would be a huge-normous amount of high $$$ players cut in the next few weeks because of the reduction in the cap.

The end of Derek Watt on the Steelers? 3mm is a lot for a special teams player.
2021 Steelers Offseason Thread
They should have just cut him.Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Pittsburgh has restructured fullback Derek Watt‘s contract to create $880,000 of cap space. With the salary cap expected to come in at $182.5 million, every bit of space counts

Ray-Ray signed to a one year deal at league minimum and a small bonus, instead of picking up his option at $2.1 mil per season.
