That comment wasn't about strategy, it was only pointing out that drafting in the top 2 for a series of season (AKA tanking) is player development agnostic. When you add a guy like Kris Bryant, Carlos Correia, Bryce Harper, it doesn't matter how well you teach them in the minors. They make it to the majors and perform. Cole wasn't a player development issue, he made it to the majors quickly and was a huge part of their success, and had a Cy Young caliber season in 2015. That was ML level coaching that tanked his value in 2016 and idiotic management to then trade him at his lowest value.

I don't really understand the full scope of the NH & Hurdle/Searage relationship, but it really seems like they built and collaborated closely in both building up the pirates playoff runs and destroying the value of their most prized assets.

It's like my brain just can't recall the Mets in the WS. I can't remember anything about them being there

He won't. Theyll rotate Gonzalez Newman and frazier in the middle infield unless frazier is gone.

Historically bad offense:

C = Stallings, "perez"
IF = Moran, Evans, Frazier, Newman, Gonzalez, Hayes, WILMER DIFO
OF = Reynolds Alford Tucker Polanco

Oh my.

Signed by the Mets.

They probably think they can morph Alford into something

Damn. They still only have 2 real OF even with Alford. The 3rd is some combination of Polanco, Tucker, Frazier. Dumb.

Was talking to my Marlins buddy yesterday about the Pirates current $30MM payroll. Pirates fall into the second tier of revenue sharing this season (Marlins are the first tier) with a group of teams getting $40MM. On top of that, the league’s central fund will hold steady and dish out $50MM to each team. $90MM in welfare money and a third of it going to the on-field product. Nutting is such a **** bag.

What does the "second tier" mean
Marlins are getting $76MM in revenue sharing. Rays and Pirates getting $40MM. Continues to drop from there.

How do the marlins get more? Isn't Miami like a significantly larger market? Idk what all the factors are.

It’s based on local revenue, so TV deals and gate receipts. In 2019 the Pirates had $109MM in local revenue. Marlins had $38MM.

Geez the marlins’ TV deal must be worthless
$18MM in 2019. Says a lot about their game day revenue generation.
