Fellows was a 6th rounder out of Vandy in 2019 and didn't play in the minors yet. Not bad

I don’t know how to feel. This feels like a win. An easy win. But that can’t be right.

Just trade Taillon, Hayes and Keller now so they don't waste any good years here

This trade was a big win. Musgrove is average. A middle rotation starter at his best. And they brought in at least 3 upside guys for him?
Head is highly regarded already. Baseball America has Cruz and Rodriguez are listed as 2021 breakout prospects. And Fellows is intriguing given his work at Vandy.

I dont know what Taillon's trade value is, but Musgrove is his floor really. They better be taking calls.

Musgrove is harrrible.Musgrove is cheap and under control for another year after this. I am surprised how little they got for Bell compared to this.

There was some peripheral stat shard by the baseball stat guys a while back that showed musgrove having two of the most effective pitches in baseball. A team with savvy analytics will probably be able to take advantage of that. That also probably boosted his value to some teams.
While this package is something, I thinks its being oversold, hunter head still has much to prove, none of these are “top” prospects.

Is that an opportunity to be Jonah Hill?
I wonder how shitty the Pirates pay their baseball ops people.

Musgrove was getting better at spin mirroring and pitch tunneling, so look for his stats and performance to improve with the Padres. Also look for grimacing Pirates fans shortly thereafter.
Pretty cool stuff, to be honest. Making your pitches look like other pitches by changing spin direction, etc.

Back in the old days (2019), my buddy and I would spend a fair amount of time talking about the pirates analytical team. The pirates are cheap, but one would think that a team full of relatively cheap, smart nerds fresh out of school would have as good of an ROI as anything else that the pirates are willing to "splurge" on. Dollars spent on analytics probably would have a quicker return on investment compared to the draft, international signings, etc.Is that an opportunity to be Jonah Hill?

Theyre rising, high upside prospects. We've grown accustomed to once high pedigree guys who aren't panning out, or close to the majors guys who aren't that good. That is a big change.

I still think for the deal, I'd take a collection of those players over 1-2 players. Fill the farm system with as much "talent" as you can, to make the good talent even better, technically speaking.

Agreed. Load the system as much as possible, especially given GMNH’s track record. I would have been fine with the Bell trade if there was more quantity. Instead the quality and quantity both sucked.
