Thus begins what will be the slow exodus of those bad NH 1st round picks. Tucker and Newman will eventually play their way out of MLB.

Lots to unpack in this post. We shall break it down piece by piece
Discuss the pirates off-season transactions
They will be useless.
2021 outlook.
They will lose a substantial amount of games, and, god willing, if they get a chance to play 162 games they will lose 100 of them.

Currently rolling with a sub 50mm payroll. They haven’t been paying the pedo anything and they dumped archer.

But, they’ve probably given BC the freedom to tank.

Unfortunately the pirates are a bunch of absolute loser dodints. This is going to be the greatest buyers market ever, all the teams that actually had to pay players a lot last year will need to cut back after massive 2020 losses. But by summer 2021 folks will be able to crowd back in and likely be amped up for it. So the money will be flowing again next offseason.

You make some strategic trades where you move can move some cheaper players under control to free up money and roster space for more expensive guys that are either FA’s or available for trade because teams need to cut payroll.

But, that would require the pirates to have a firm grasp of what their core is, which to me, is more about taking a risk and exercising conviction more than anything else.

Cole Tucker achieved Vanessa Hudgens. His career is a success.

Good signing if he's a utility infielder/defensive replacement.

Fangraphs had a NL Central preview, but said the Pirates were so far behind the other teams in metrics that they didn't even mention them again.

Clay holmes was non tendered by the pirates. I've decided to make a habit of searching old 5af threads for some good quotes when guys like this are cut. This is my first attempt. Should be good times.
Holmes sucks the same balls he's always sucked. He has no business being on an MLB roster. At the same time, that doesn't mitigate the fact that Hurdle continually leaves failing relievers in for too long and had his catcher bunt away an out in the bottom of the inning, which was later capped off with Cora being the same idiot he always is.

Holmes reminds me of the first scouting department scene in Moneyball. Tall, good looking dude, high school stud going to Auburn, projectable traits but just needs some fixing, etc etc that we throw $2MM to convince him to skip college.

Shad’s link in the college football topic led me to this, which I had never seen before and can’t stop laughing at.
