New Jersey was supposed to legalize like a year ago.

They’re now quibbling on how they can gouge consumers most effectively and sustainably. There’s a giant company who operates in many states and currently has one of the medical places. They charge 2X black market prices to largely poor and elderly people who have no option to go somewhere else.

Things are complicated in the ole garden state.

On that front I highly recommend Murder Mountain on Netflix which takes in the California legalization.

Shockingly the high taxes and massive regulation knocks out the small farmers and enables the cops and agribusiness to take over.

I don’t weep for the small farmers. It is really sad that they won’t be able to continue their businesses the same way. In an industry where you are inhaling their product into your lungs, over regulation is warranted. Consumers want and deserve lab grade material in 2019. The boutique farms produce high quality but so do countless others. I’m a man of the people. This industry should be corralled, however. The over taxation is the only issue. But not out west.

California is also not expensive or particularly unwieldy compared to other states.

Should be just state sales tax. If it's any higher, there should be a corresponding beer tax.

Agreed. The alcohol/cannabis blatant hypocrisy is incredible to me. At least i could understand the total prohibition point of view, even if i vehemently disagree. Alcohol has destroyed/ended millions more lives than weed ever has.

Doesn't beer currently have a state sales tax in PA?

I think allowing people to grow their own is essential. I also know that untaxed unregulated weed would sell for literally a couple bucks an ounce. I have no issues with imposing a vice tax like this in its infancy. It is not a toxic substance. But it is one that has no agreed upon best practice for all of its forms or formal guidance for initial use. Eventually once we’re acclimated, let er rip. I’m ok going slow.

I'm looking forward to living somewhere that I can legally grow. That would be a fun hobby.

Yes, but no additional 'sin' tax like they're proposing for cannabis, or like liquor currently does.

Some friends of ours recently got divorced. The wife just posted a plea on Facebook to New Jersey parents to stop legalization of this gateway drug. Her ex husband and children are people of color.

Guess I know who’s winning the custody battle of all their common friends.

That isn’t going to be its final form. Allowing home grow is going to get wiped out.

The way this will work is that they will establish a system based on politically driven hand outs to newly licensed businesses. It will take a year + to iron out a plan that will make the right people wealthy. Eventually, you’ll get a highly regulated industry with token measures in place that don’t actually address anything, but they will make the 60+ people sleep better. And with prices higher than the black market, as well as a limited set of dispensaries and poor product selection for a while.

The east has no playbook for this.

Maybe not, but we do have a hell of a quarterback here in Pa with Fetterman...

NJ votes to legalize today
As I was driving back from NYC on the NJT, I noticed a couple of pro-cannabis billboards along the way, both of which highlighting the decrease in opioid prescriptions after legalizing.

:thumb: I have family that went this route based on a doctor recommendation in PA and so far so good.
