Alright pilgrims, I've been waiting very patiently since last March for the ball to be tipped. I'm less than two weeks away (hopefully) from my one true love. Gonzaga is preseason #1. Not that it really means anything but it does show that they are gonna be just as strong as they have been in the last couple of years. Teams are at last finalizing their non-con schedules. Many leagues are using a schedule format where a team will play consecutive nights in the same arena against the same team 5 times road and 5 times home (for example, the CAA would have Hofstra play at Towson on Saturday and Sunday one weekend and then Towson would play at Drexel the next Saturday and Sunday). It's certainly something different but it's what these leagues need to do to maximize the amount of games they're going to get to play.

In Covid-related news, the Ivy League just axed winter sports for this academic year and that includes basketball. So much for those who thought Harvard and Yale were going to be potential tournament sleepers. Also, the state of New Mexico is not allowing any group gatherings of more than 5 so the New Mexico football team has already escaped to Vegas. No word yet if the UNM or New Mexico State's basketball teams will have to go somewhere else in order to play.

Luka Garza, Drew Timme, Howard University basketball (yes, really), Mohegan Sun Bubbleville, the Battle of Atlantis in South Dakota....these are just some of the early storylines of the hoops season and we get to tip it off (hopefully!) on November 25.

The season is less than 24 hours away and it’s already madness. Coaches getting covid, teams shutting down for two weeks, schedules all out of whack. My team, Towson, is playing in the Mohegan bubble event. We were originally supposed to open with St Bonaventure. They pulled out and Friday, we got San Francisco. Then yesterday, some more jumbling and UMASS-Lowell is the opponent. Now today, Lowell is swapped out for Virginia. Talk about a massive upgrade. This first month will be rough on non-con festivals. Might be better off just scheduling one-offs close to home.

The University of San Francisco Dons, who were last relevant during they heyday in the late 70s/early 80s, score the huge upset over No. 4 Virginia!

Zags/WVU tonight. If you asked me what P5 college basketball coach is most likely to wear a mask like a chin strap, Huggy would definitely have been my choice.

Boxscore of the night:

https://goredbirds.com/documents/2020/1 ... nville.pdf

Final -- Illinois State 177, something called Greenville College 108

I happened to see this score and had to go investigate, thinking it was going to be a barrage of 3's. Nope. Greenville hit 14, Illinois State had 8. But the eye-popper was that Illinois State shot 70 of 81 FROM THE FIELD for the game!!!! That's 86%. They scored 122 of their points in the paint and 29 from the free throw line so that means that they only hit 1 2-point jumper from outside the paint. But there's room for improvement -- they had 24 turnovers and only 29 of 42 from the free throw line. They scored 82 points on the fast break!!

Upon further review, Greenville is a D-3 school that presses at all times. And as you will see in the video, they don’t do it very well. They also gave up 173 to Murray State on Sunday.

This floor gives me a headache.

Who could think that is a good idea? And I say this as a fan of nationally televised colored turf games.

I think it's a really cool design until I try to follow where on the court the players are vs any line except the white inner arc. Then it's a nightmare.

I wouldn't want to ref on it that's for sure.

Yep

B1G came a Purdue loss to Miami away from sweeping their ACC B1G challenge games last night including Duke never really challenging Illinois at Cameron and PSU thumping # 15 VT by 20 on the road.

Yup, great win for the Lions last night.

K State also lost to previously 0-3 DII squad Fort Hays State by 13.

Purdue was up 18 at half and Miami was without their best player. That’s a monumental collapse.

Big Ten battles are gonna be fascinating to watch with Iowa, Illinois, Sparty, Michigan as the frontrunners and teams like PSU, Wisky, Indiana, Twerps, Rutgers, and Purdue just a step behind. That’s 10 out of the 14 teams. Good luck picking those games each night.

@RonnieFranchise's Friars reel off a 17-4 run to tie Creighton with :07 left and then watch as the Jays come down on a secondary break and feed a trailer for a slam with .8 left. Rough way to lose a game.
