Ya know what’s kind of wild about the phone call? None of what trump said is new. It’s sh*t that he and his cronies have been spewing all over Twitter and in interviews. Is it because it was on a phone call with an official that it’s news?

I tend to believe that people thought he knew he was losing and he was grifting. I'm more in the, this idiot really thinks he can do this camp, which is mind-blowing when we've heard the mental gymnastics that Joe Biden is on his way out mentally. Trump is full-blown living in a fantasy-world.

He's a Republican and doesn't want to put the party in any worse light than it already is. Not a surprise he'd only use it when provoked. It also probably speaks to how normal these interactions with Trump have become.

I don't have an issue with his decision to hold back. He had his lawyer on the call with him, clearly aware that the president was going to be asking him to do illegal things. And like has been mentioned, the things Trump said in private are the same things that he says publicly. But essentially the lawyer was there to make sure that the SOS didn't say anything that could potentially be used against him should Trump's electioneering spawn future investigations into this ordeal and bring further questions to the legitimacy of the GA election results.

To me, the presence of the lawyer made it crystal clear that the GA SOS had no intention of going along with anything Trump said. It is not his responsibility to hold Trump accountable for trying to stage a coup, apparently there are no means in this country from stopping the President from openly trying to overturn an election, we are just lucky that there are enough actors willing to say no at this point. His only interest is in being able to ensure that Trump didn't misrepresent anything that was said on the call and make it clear that he was not going to go along with any of the scheme.

I think he could start a third party with his base, but doing so would split the Republican vote and all but guarantee another D win in 2024.

This is what infuriates me. There is nothing different on this call/transcript than what has been on record for this guy for 40 years of public life, and yet this is the basis on which the "he'll become 'presidential' after [insert arbitrary milestone]" hats were hung.

This was the inevitable endgame of 'President Donald Trump' since the first talk about his political aspirations arose in the 1980s. This is the extent of the guy. This is what he is, all he is capable of being.

There's a confidentiality angle here. Once Trump talked about the content of the call publicly, it would pierce any legitimate claim to secrecy. They wouldn't have recorded the call unless they anticipated the need for a contingency.

This has been my beef for months at this point. Trump isn't the real problem, it is the extent to which others in power are willing to go along with and facilitate his lunacy that poses the threat.
