The gold finches LOVE our sunflower patch come August or so. Always seems to be a few flying around in there.

Some animal behaviors are universal, because you could probably go to any bar in the country on any given night and see the exact same thing.

Had two goldfinches today. Hope he returns tomorrow with even more friends.

I’m currently sitting on my patio waiting for the goldfinches to return. One of the ones I’ve seen on my feeder today is the brightest yellow I have ever seen on a bird, and I’d love to get a photo of it.
Also had a beautiful red fox stroll through our yard this morning, and wish I had anything on me when I saw it.

The cicadas are coming. The last time these broods co-emerged, the year was 1803.

I setup a Kasa cam pointed at my yard, and got the fox strolling through this morning. We were all downstairs in the kitchen, so I got a good look at it from the patio door.

Looks like the mourning dove that nested in an old robin's nest above my front door had the typical two squabs.
Doves are notoriously bad at building nests. The round part on the bottom was built by the robins and was sturdy enough to still be there a couple years later. The haphazard sticks on top were added by the mourning doves.

Some backyard shots from the other day. About 10 seconds after I left, I saw a bluebird on the feeder, which is starting to happen more frequently. Don't really see them too often.
And, of course, the peanut gallery.
