I've never understood why football teams need so much time off.
Have you ever played full contact footbal?
4 years in high school (I understand Montgomery County, MD high school football isn't the NFL). I also played hockey for about 15 years. Hockey took more out of me than football.

I would say the further away you line up from the ball, the more likely you are to be able to play multiple games in a week with conditioning being the limiting factor. But I think linemen and probably running backs would be absolutely decimated if they were expected to routinely play the kind of schedule a regular hockey player can do.

Haha, made me remember....... the last time I played a pickup football game I was on the other side against a guy who played at USC. He sort of kinda hit me once.... that was in 2002, and I think I'm still a little bit dizzy.

I think we can agree that the NFL is no different than high school, clearly.

I am, in no way, advocating that the NFL should have a similar schedule to the NHL. All I am saying is the "OUR TEAM IS ONLY GETTING 4 DAYS OFF" argument doesn't make a ton of sense to me. But yeah, I'm not an NFL lineman. I'm also not paid millions of dollars a year to play sportball.

Maybe 4 days is fine. But it sucks when your opponent has 8 days of rest, no?

*Actually 10, WFT played on Thanksgiving

I was an OL in high school. I was sore and bruised until Tuesday-Wednesday the following week. Sure, I could've played sooner than Friday night, but glad we didn't have to.

That happens every year to every team, no?

Steelers play Thursday, Ravens play Sunday, both teams play against each other next Sunday (for example). Or does the NFL account for that?

I played drums in marching band and the carriers did a number on my shoulders. Nice to have those day off in between games.

I was also OL. Left Tackle. I also played in a pretty bottom rate county in the country. If I played in western PA or TX it may have been a different story.

Part of the griping is that this is the second time the Steelers have had a material impact to their schedule that negatively affects their ability to prepare for both the rescheduled game and the subsequent matchup. Part of it, assuredly, is that it is the Ratbirds.

normally teams playing on short rest are playing another team on short rest

I think, don't @ me mikey, that football has fewer 'plays' and opportunities to capitalize on possessions so game planning is more important in football than hockey. Hockey coaching is important, but I'm not certain every single game during a season gets the intense/scripted game planning than an NFL game requires. Football is just more granular, more like baseball than hockey.

Game planning for an out of conference opponent in 4 days seems like it would be a challenge. Particularly if, as noted, the WFT has 8 days to design their scheme.

Yes beyond rest, a team having an extra six days of prep isn't really what the competition committee designs. It is what it is in a pandemic but they didn't handle this well

I am oddly excited for this game. Being at such a whacky time and day is amusing to me.

YEs I would like to get some takes on what everyone will be doing for this game. Working and watching? Listening to the dulcet tones of Bill, Tunch and Wolf? pounding IC lights in the driveway right around the same time the kids are done with school?

I came into work early so I could leave early and catch the start. My wife is studying for finals so I'm going to go to my Dad's and watch it.

I could have gone into the office today, but instead decided to WFH. Laptop will live up to its namesake as I watch the foosball game.

I'll DVR it and begin watching it at quitting time (4PM). I usually start watching a half hour late so I can skip commercials.

It was tough to listen to him before his illness was disclosed and now I can barely handle it. It really sucks, but at least he is being treated to a good season and seems to be really enjoying himself.

I had commented on this before and it’s just really sad. I heard the start of a game a couple weeks ago on the radio and when Tunch did a scripted read in he sounded fine, so I thought that maybe the last time I heard him he was just having a rough day. As soon as it went to live action and he had to do things on the fly it was a mess. Thankfully Wolf is there as a 40 year best friend to finish every sentence.
