Oh man.... Been way too long since I've had a Cuban. I love a good reuben (Rachels are a pathetic imitation), but I'm already googling for good
Cuban sandwiches around here

I've never met a Rachel that didn't suck, so that sandwich is aptly named.

I made Cubans for lunch last week using some of the pork from Joe's and leftover easter ham from the freezer. That was pretty damn tasty.

I like the concept of cubans but I don't like pickles nor mustard, so I have to order them with just the meat and cheese

they're still delicious, but I know I'm missing out on the whole packager

Also, for research purposes, you should watch the film Chef (with Jon Favreau). Here’s the clip of how to make a Cuban sandwich:

Oh man, I fell in love with Cubans when I had a great one in Tampa during a work conference. And like they say, you never forget your first.

Thornhill Tap House was very meh. Little mustard and they used sliced pickles instead of diced dill,
So meh.

My wife is getting me a waffle iron/panini press/griddle combo for fathers day. I will follow up with another go at a Cuban. This time I will make my own Cuban bread instead of buying an Italian loaf as a substitute.

The premise of this thread is abhorrent. Cubans are decent American food, but best sandwich ever?

It's not even the best American sandwich. A muffaletta would stick it's meaty **** in a cubano with little-to-no fight.

Anthony Bourdain was in Africa during one of his last seasons, and had a local meal that looked mostly like what passes for soul food down here. Greens, yams, hamhocks, okra, etc. It was crazy how similar it was, an ocean and continent away. But if you cogitate on why the food is similar...it makes sense.

I just realized the whole run of Parts Unknown is on HBO Max...very cool.
