I can at least understand some movement based on the Senior Bowl. You have a week of practice and a game vs similar draftable peers under the watch of pro coaches doing pro workouts all week.

Exhibit A on why pro days and the combine are dumb. Let's forget the years of tape on these guys playing actual football and slide them up or down a few rounds based on a single workout. K.
I agree that it's annoying, I just would expect a guy not a lineman to post better numbers than a 4.9. lol

In reality it's a combination of both and sometimes an excellent or awful combine performance can over influence one way or another depending on franchise neuroses. The reality for Twyman is that he played two seasons of college football, with one of those seasons being excellent, but took a complete season off to protect himself and prepare for becoming a professional football player, but seemingly came unprepared for the first event in over 12 months where NFL scouts were able to take a look at him. At the 2020 combine his 40 speed would have put him in a group with Rich Eisen. It's not necessarily a deal breaker, but it's a hell of a red flag.

As the resident marsupial alluded to, Paris Ford is basically a walking red flag and this is just another oddity to add to the list. Lots of scouts seemed to have him pegged as a mid-third day pick at best based on game tape accumulated before he decided to quit and apparently not prepare at all for the pro day. Didn't even know how to do the **** drills properly. The miserable lot that populates this thread is extremely familiar with his on-field performance, but when it comes to making a draft pick and guaranteeing someone X amount of money, is a stout performance against a Syracuse team full of non-professional prospects enough to overcome a laundry list of weirdness? Unless he interviews extremely well, which I doubt, he's heading for UDFA land and will have to earn his NFL career the hard way (which I think he will).

Yeah it seemed like even before the pro-day most scounts had him as a late round pick at best. He certainly did nothing to help himself.

While the initial freak out over the basketball transfers remains probably somewhat well earned given that the season was still ongoing, the transfer portal now has more than 600 players looking to transfer and the number will likely grow after the tournament.

While I don’t begrudge players wanting to be able to seek better opportunities for a litany of reasons, college basketball as the sport I grew up loving is dead. It is impossible to build a roster or develop players if everyone is going to head to the transfer portal every time they’re upset with playing time or coach was mean to their sensitive little spirits.

The example I always think of is Aaron Gray. That big oaf played less than 400 minutes in his first two seasons while working his ass off to become a player worthy of playing time, ending up as a dominant Big East center with a respectable NBA career cut short by a heart issue. Now he could just pack up after his freshman season and head to whichever program has a head coach who lies to him the most about guaranteed playing time. There has to be some kind of middle ground between indentured servitude that is punished if you look to leave and unfettered free agency.

this year will be an outlier for the portal, to be fair. every senior in the country is still a senior next year, however every team doesn't have room for these guys to come back next year, so they're hitting the portal to try and find a home for one more year of college hoops.

Seniors will definitely have an impact on the numbers this season, but now many of them are being factored in at this point? ESPN had a rough expectation of 1,500 players in the portal when the season is over. That’s absolute bonkers.

A+ rant from Dunn.

The NCAA's "old way" of handling transfers was unfair. But 600+ players in the transfer portal is no fun either. There are so many parties at fault here that its impossible top place the blame on any single entity. Coaches have no loyalty. The NCAA has no moral high ground at this point. Players are willing to bounce from high school to high school at this point, trying to do whatever they can to get the playing time and recognition they "deserve." AAU coaches are interested only in their pocket books. College hoops is f'ed

This is an excellent point. The poisoning of the sport starts with the disaster that is AAU basketball.

I count 139 seniors. So roughly 25% of the portal at the moment is comprised of players that would normally just be graduating and gone.

The Super Panthers have two wrestlers in the semifinals tonight (undoubtedly thanks to their new assistant coach). Both have decent chances to make the NCAA finals as they are the higher seed in each match due to some upsets.

Considering Pitt's location and now their coaching staff they really should be a top 5 or so team. The new facilities will get them there I think. 5 years or so and I bet they'll be up there.

Pitt lost both of their finals matches today. Still a pretty good showing. Baseball won at UVA. H2P

Volleyball took the weekend vs Miami and Duke, and Pitt beat UVA in Game 2. Softball went 1-3 vs #16 VT.

Soccer beat Duke as well. Decent Pitt weekend overall. Would have been nice to get a wrestling NC, but the team finished #11 overall in team standings, best finish since 1970.

Agree with both points. The other thing that sucks hard is the mid season transfers. Again, understand that players need some freedom to transfer, but there has to be a middle ground. I think some of the players though will find out that it's not all it's cracked up to be either.

I said this on the Twitter, but if this Transfer Portal thing becomes the norm it will temper quite a bit my enthusiasm for college sports.
