This. His offensively absent micromanaging style of play and coaching, plus his annual move to hold a job offer gun to Pitt’s head if they wouldn’t give him a raise, was tolerable and accepted when he was good and the program was good. The move to the ACC was not good for him and he was never getting his mojo back at Pitt. His overall record at TCU has been fine, but he’s pulling the standard move of complete joke non-conference schedules while being mediocre in conference. His days as a top college basketball coach are over.

I'll take it overall too. That doesn't mean they should have continued to employ him on the bad side of the hill..

But that's part of the deal. If you want more good years than bad if you have a generally consistent coach, then you stick with them during the bad times as well.

Are you suggesting good years were going to come after his bad years?

In hindsight, would it have been worse than what we’ve gotten since he left?

I thought we were talking about the hypothetical of taking 3 bad seasons for 10 good ones on a regular basis.

That said, who knows if there would be more good or if the bad would continue. His bad seasons we were still a tourney/bubble team.

The best direction to take this conversation is that Scott Barnes is a piece of ****.

Yep 2 run homer in the 9th to tie it up. Might just watch these guys instead of the Bucs this year

That. The three "bad" years that according to 5AF posters justified Dixon's firing were:
26-10 (11-7)
19-15 (8-10)
21-12 (9-9)

Two NCAA Tournaments, one NIT.

11-7, 8-10, 9-9 is all that matters. His OOC cupcake march should not be viewed positively

So, in other words, he deserved being let go, because he went slightly ABOVE 50% in one of the best BB conferences!

Again, the specifics of Dixon’s departure are being misconstrued. Pitt didn’t fire or get rid of Dixon. Year after year Dixon would come to Pitt about a job offer elsewhere and strong arm the school into giving him a raise to stay, elevating himself to one of the top paid coaches in the country despite tournament performance and diminishing results.

After the 2016 season Dixon went to Pitt and said “my beloved alma mater TCU is offering me their head coaching position AND I’m still peeved that we left the Big East for the ACC, so you’re really gonna have to up my salary to keep me here”, to which Scott Barnes said “well, bye” and helped nudge Dixon out the door, so he left for TCU.

To me, making the tourney with a chance to play for the national championship is all that matters. He continued to do that.

We have gone to numerous Pitt baseball games over the past few years. The kids love it, I love it, it's family friendly, and fun to watch unlike the Buccos. That has been my baseball fix for the last 6 or 7 years.

The best is when both Pitt softball and baseball are playing the same day. You can just walk back and forth between the games, as it is only one ticket you need to purchase. And again, the kids love it too.

And now with the ACCNX and ACC network, I've watched a ton of olympic sports over the past few years as well.

Jamie's teams reached the AP top 10 at some point in each of his first 9 seasons. The best of the next 4 topped out at 16, with each of his last 3 teams ending the season unranked... The expectations were higher than just making the tournament
