I know Pitt can't afford it, but Narduzzi should be gone tomorrow.

This is worse.Since UPS 2018This is the worst loss in a long time.
That game was in the middle of a rainstorm and the beginning of a season with an unproven offense.
This is game 7 of what was supposed to be a statement season where they have lost 4 straight.
There are two games that they'll be competitive in the rest of the season.

This loss is horrible don't get me wrong, but I'd feel differently if Pickett was QB and we got smacked.

I didn’t think Narduzzi would get fired this year unless things really went south - as in 3 wins and he loses the locker room. I’m starting to wonder if we’re getting close to that.
This is four games in a row now where the vaunted defense has been picked apart, and this by a team that wasn’t supposed to have this kind of success throwing the ball. His scheme has been completely exposed. The only thing more incredible is that Mark Whipple has done the impossible in making the offense worse than it was under Watson.

I'm off the Narduzzi train. It's 4 weeks in a row where our D was exposed, yet he refuses to make any adjustments. And he did the same in 2016 when we actually had a really good offense. I thought back then, it was just he didn't have his players. Now, he does have them and still won't adjust.
I know it's difficult losing your starting QB, but even before Picket was hurt, we had no run game, drop passes were constant, and penalties, unforced ones are also constant. Those are things that you should clean up after 2 straight years.
I don't think they can fire him this year. With COVID and all, and that extension, the buyout is expensive, and Pitt doesn't have the resources.
But next year, he better get 9 or 10 wins so save his ass. If not, I think it's time to pull the trigger after 2021. He just doesn't get it. And it doesn't help that he has made a bunch of enemies around Pgh for being a ******.

I'm done with Narduzzi as well.
I really liked the hire when it was made. I liked the energy he brought. I liked the presence they established on social media...the bravado. After his first two seasons, I thought Pitt had something. They beat UPS and Clemson. They won games they should have and didn't really have any bad losses, outside of maybe the Military Bowl game against Navy. Even then, that was his first year and those weren't his guys on defense. 2017 was written off as a transitional year, and I thought the next year when Pitt rebounded from the UCF and UPS losses to beat Wake and win the Coastal, the program was really about to turn a corner.
Instead, that's been his high-water mark. Every criticism of Narduzzi's coaching has reared its head consistently and repeatedly. Immediately after clinching the Coastal, they close the season 0-3, with the expected blowout at the hands of Clemson book-ended by blowing very winnable games at Miami and in the bowl game against Stanford. Goodbye, 9-win season...or 10, if you want to throw in the inexplicable loss to a crappy UNC team. Narduzzi's coaching costs them the Penn State game in 2019 and each of their 8 wins last year felt tougher than they needed to be, like needing late-game TDs to beat f'ing Delaware and Eastern Michigan. They lose winnable HOME games to Miami and BC.
Since the Wake game, Pitt is 11-15. Against P5 competition, they're 6-12. If this was Years 1-3 of his tenure, I could get that. But this started late in Year Four. These are rosters with HIS guys. This is HIS defense. These are HIS recruits on offense, running plays and schemes designed by HIS offensive coordinator hires. Those are HIS guys out there committing 9, 10, 12 penalties per game, every game.
That said, I agree that he probably gets one more year, largely because of the budget issues. Even if Pitt could somehow afford his buyout, I don't know how they'd then come up with the money to afford a perceived upgrade. I have confidence that Lyke would make a good hire if/when that decision is made.
I do think changes are coming in the coaching ranks on the offensive side of the ball. I'm not 100% sure Whipple makes it through the year, let alone to next year, though the time to make that change would be this week. I think Borbley will also be gone. I'm not sure about Powell; the RBs have been bad because of the o-line, not because the RBs lack talent. Powell also coaches special teams and they have not been good this year. I think Beatty's safe due to his role in recruiting. Salem is safe as well because let's face it, if he hasn't been fired by now, he won't be until Narduzzi is gone.

I’m more than fine with Pitt being a leapfrog school. Get a coach who’s on the rise, have him coach two years, and leave to a better job and start over.
Pitt isn’t a premier program and I don’t think ever will be.

People who talk about Fickell are crazy. He has a team in the Top 10. Why would he come to Pitt.
2020-2021 Pittsburgh Super Panthers Sports Thread
I wasn’t even mentioning names. Just I think Pitt needs to reevaluate the importance of their program and shift to something different. Whatever they want to be today, they aren’t.
2020-2021 Pittsburgh Super Panthers Sports Thread
I'd argue that salary/resources would likely be a step up for someone like Fickell but in his case, I'm not sure that's true. Narduzzi's total compensation last year was just over $4 million (base + incentives), but his base salary ($2.95M) may be less what Fickell is getting on his new extension. Fickell's new deal at Cincy reportedly pays him $3.4 million a year, though I'm not sure if that's base + incentives.People who talk about Fickell are crazy. He has a team in the Top 10. Why would he come to Pitt.
I think the main thing that would entice someone like Fickell to leave a program like Cincy for a program like Pitt is that Group-of-Five teams are almost certainly going to continue to be shut out of the college football playoff. I think given what we've seen with UCF the last couple of years, the only way for a Go5 team to make it will be to load up their non-conf schedule on P5 teams and win all of them, but even that presents problems for them.
Brand-level P5 programs typically won't agree to home-and-home series with them, though this hasn't stopped Cincy, for example. They played one-off games at Michigan in 2017, tOSU last year, and they go to ND next year. Unfortunately for Cincy, they got blown out in those Michigan and tOSU games. The other problem is that wins over "non-brand" P5 opponents may not move the needle enough for them. When UCF lost at Pitt last year, UCF's chances at getting into the playoff immediately vanished. Had UCF won that game and then run the table they would have had wins over Pitt and Stanford, but I'm still not sure that would have been enough to push them into the top four for the playoff.
If the playoff is the ultimate goal for a coach, coming to Pitt presents a whole other issue - namely, the path to that in the ACC has to go through Clemson for the foreseeable future. That brings up a whole other discussion of "resources", because there just aren't many programs nationally that are going to even be able to match what Clemson is doing.
That's an emerging issue in each of the P5 conferences - that widening gap between the P5 programs that have and programs that don't have as much. While Pitt falling clearly into the latter, at least there remains a defined path to the playoff, and I think Pitt being in the Coastal Division helps. The Coastal's "brand" programs - Miami and VT - aren't at Clemson-like levels of spending, and both of those programs have continued to struggle to get back to their old "brand" levels. You don't have to beat Clemson each year just to get to Charlotte; you just likely have to beat them once you get there.
