I was entertained by that

I do not follow CFB that closely, but today's win pretty much guarantees Pitt will stay ranked even after Big10 (and Pac 12?) teams are allowed to go back in the rankings, right?

Absolutely should. If they had a semi-competent offense people would be talking about top ten rankings and if they could upset Clemson.

Imagine the buzz if Pitt's offense was this good and their defense was mediocre. They'd be the talk of cfb

That was an ass kicking but somehow a 3 point win. But that was a complete ass kicking. 7 sacks 3 picks vs 9 completions

Florida State won't score a point if Pitt plays like this.
Which means we'll win 6-0.
Which means we'll win 6-0.

What Pitt's Defensive Line is going to do to this Florida State Offensive Line is going to be a war crime. #h2p
2020-2021 Pittsburgh Super Panthers Sports Thread
1. This defense is playing at an absolutely elite level. This is like top-ten or maybe even top-five caliber production from that side of the ball. I don't know where to start. Louisville rang up 500 yards on what looks to be a solid Miami defense. Today they couldn't even get half of that against Pitt, and 75 of what they did get came on one play. Louisville was 1 for 11 on third downs. Pitt had three picks, seven sacks, and twelve tackles for a loss.
2. Something else that really stuck out to me...For years, we would look at the defensive production stats and game after game, it always seemed like DBs were near the top of the tackle charts. Not today. Ford led the way with 6 but you'll expect that from your SS. The next names on the list were Jones (6), Bright (5), Weaver (4), Dennis (4), and Pine (4). Hamlin and Williams each had three, and then Kancey had two. Jones, Bright, Weaver, Dennis, and Kancey were all each credited with a QB hurry. The numbers really bear out how much production that front seven generates.
3. ACC offensive linemen who breathed a sigh of relief when Jaylen Twyman opted out are going to really enjoy trying to block Calijah Kancey. Kancey reminds me a lot of Twyman when Twyman first broke into the DT rotation. That kid is going to be an absolute beast over the next two years.
4. David Green and Keyshon Camp both had really good games today in that second DT rotation. Green is quietly becoming a solid player.
5. Following up on my point from earlier today about coaching staffs building great teams with unheralded recruits:
Rashad Weaver - Rivals 2-star (thanks, Harbaugh)
Patrick Jones - 2 star
Phil Campbell - 3 star
Jason Pinnock - 3 star with three offers
Deslin Alexandre - 3 star
Cam Bright - 3 star with only one P5 offer
Sirvocea Dennis - 2 star with one P5 offer
Calijah Kancey - 3 start with six P5 offers
Yes, having Ford and Hamlin helps as well, but this is just outstanding work by the coaches, identifying and then developing these guys so far. Now let's find someone to do this with the offense. Speaking of which...
6. Vincent Davis had a solid game today, it was nice to get Taysir Mack back, and Addison is a superstar in the making. Abanikanda had some nice carries in the time he got. I thought Pickett looked a little off at times, but not a bad game.
7. Overall, I'm still a bit frustrated by the offensive play-calling and some of the execution. I thought another touchdown-less second half and trading too many TDs for FGs early on would come back to bite Pitt but thankfully it didn't.
8. Someone on Twitter said Whipple is basically a less chicken-fried version of Jim Chaney and I can't really argue with that. The idea of bringing Whipple on board intrigued me because he worked up a bit of a reputation tailoring his systems to his talent at previous stops. I'm not entirely seeing it here. He did it last year through Ffrench because there was no running game to speak of. This year, I guess it's still a work in progress. I'd just like see more attempts to hit on some splash plays but I guess we'll see.
Frustration about the offense at times aside, I'm really happy to see them at 3-0, and this game hammered home how good this defense could really be this year.

Strong takes, hot coffee, 2020 edition:
-Pitt has had some genuine ass beatings against good or equally talented teams over the year. VT 2018 comes to mind because you could visually see virginia tech stop giving a sht about halfway through the third quarter. The same thing happened yesterday. Tutu Atwell could have been wide open (and often was)all day and it wouldn’t have mattered because Cunningham was just over it.
-There was a third and goal in the second quarter when the Ville had the ball and Pitt had their classic 4-3 front up against a 4 wideout set. I dont know how many times over the past 20 years pitt fans have started at a wanny or chryst or nard dog 4-3 set against 4 wideout sets and end up getting torched, especially on 3rd and goal. It didn’t matter though becuase pitt rushed 4 guys and i think all four got to the QB. Gr8ness.
-Sucks for AJ Davis but he is no good. Vincent Davis is good but there are some seriously demininishing returns if he gets more than 2 or 3 carries in a series or even a quarter. It’s almost like guys that weigh 150 pounds get tired after getting tackled by dudes who are 75 to 100 pounds heavier.
-i love to whine about pitt being sloppy but they weren’t sloppy, so that was fun
-My favorite play of the day was when Paris Ford looked like he was going to help Atwell after Atwell jumped into the seats but picked up the football and said something to Atwell instead. I’d love to know what Ford said.
-Kessman?
-I dont have that many problems with Whipple. Not sure what the problem with the offense though.
-The guy from Hampton (university, not high school) played well after Huoy’s injury. Good for him for trying to play at a higher level.
-NC State had crappy quarterback play. Cantwait.bartscott

I’ll need a smarter football brain than mine to help me with the offense. The pieces seem there. The play calling seems there. The talent seems there. The execution is there a lot of the time. Why didn’t we hang 45 on these Kentucky bums?

Too many unproductive running plays imo

I think we move the ball well between the 30s. We just stall out and need to fix that so that we aren't kicking FGs.

Whipple just does not trust Pickett to throw the ball deep down the middle, or on crossing routes at all. That's why it stalls in the redzone.

I think the lack of tight ends also contributes to that hesitation. I don't think it is one particular thing, but it is a little bit of everything. They have three legit P5 wideouts (Mack, Turner, Addison) but none of those guys have created a ton of separation. The tight ends are invisible and/or hurt. Not sure kenneth shane pickett has enough oomph to really make a play

On that front the weird push KSP is getting on draft talk is very strange. I love KSP, but he's less draftable than Bill Stull, imo.

Speaking of TEs, I thought Moraga looked decent to solid. Made a hell of an effort for that one handed catch that got broken up, but that play alone was more than they’ve gotten out of TEs in five years.

Depth chart changes:
TE: Carrigan, Moraga or Wright; Krull removed
DE: Weaver, Morgan OR Baldonado; Morgan switched sides
Mike: Pine, George; Davis removed
Some personal observations I didn't have time to comment on over the weekend:
- SirVocea Dennis is excellent. Very instinctual and explosive player.
- Echoing the comments of The Great Stoosh, Kancey is incredible. Coming into this season I was very excited for Tyler Bentley, but Kancey just seems light years ahead of him at this point. For my money, he's the best interior defensive lineman on the roster.
- Deslin Alexander has been relatively quiet this season but had a huge TFL on Saturday where he just blew up his blocker and the entire play almost instantly.
- I hope Davis isn't out long term, but overall the play from Dennis, George, Petrishen, and Kamara has eased my concerns about LB depth.
- Conversely, my concerns about DB depth, especially depending on Hallett's injury, remain. Just a lot of untested youth behind the starting four. Honestly would have been nice to have Coleman or Garner stick around for veteran depth.
- With Carter injured this offense appears to have two capable RBs. Enough rotating in of Benched Davis and Sibley.

My provider doesn't have ACC network and I work every Saturday. Is there any way to watch these games 6 hours after they air on a "stream" I think youtube tv let me do that once with something.
