COVID-19

My wife still cannot taste or smell and has coughing bouts a month later after we got that brand new Euro strain. It's more of an annoyance than an issue, I guess.
Damn, that sucks. Mine feels her pain, that taste/smell thing can really be a major mental hazard. I know you know that but it really deprives sufferers of two major dopamine sources.

I still don't think there's really enough data, or anything that I've seen that points to any one person getting long-covid. Seems like it's relatively random, and they won't stop the world for that.
12.7% of adults w/COVID have symptoms lasting longer than 2 years.

Thanks for this - doesn't appear to be rhyme or reason, outside of catching COVID. I don't see how they stop anything decided going forward.

By the way, I went on r/coronavirus to see how they reacted to the rumor of the new restrictions. As you may have guessed, it was not good. There are still people on the sub who mask everywhere and haven't eaten inside a restaurant since March 2020.

I lost taste/smell totally for 5-7 months. My taste, hasn't totally come back, I guess. Certain things don't taste like they used to taste, but I've gotten used to the new normal.

I am already excited about a 2027 epidemiology paper that pinpoints exactly why this virus impacts certain people worse than others and what causes long covid while others escape the pain. There's gotta be some rhyme or reason to it.

I find those people to be lunatics prior to who looked for a reason to go totally nuts, imo.

It doesn't impact me at all, but those people seem crazy.

My wife and daughter will sometimes wear a mask depending on what store we're in, but it's voluntary at this point. I don't force my daughter to wear one if she doesn't want to. When community transmission is high, we all wear one if going out. Nothing wrong with that approach, IMO.

My wife wore one last week at a conference. I think the last time my kid or I wore one was a few weeks ago when she went to get her Covid vaccine. Before that, I couldn't tell ya.

I have nothing against people wearing them, but nah. Not for me right now. We'll see what this winter brings.

I would love for things to actually be better in the winter, because I really don't want to have to wear one at the airport or on planes again. That sucked.

It's less about the masks and more the absolute refusal to return to any kind of normal behavior. Not eating at a restaurant for over 2 years? Avoiding any sort of gathering? Masking outside? I'm talking about the extreme weirdos on r/coronavirus.

We masked all throughout our vacation and still brought Covid home. Mask all you want in stores. Just don't be one of those people who wear a mask into a restaurant while getting seated. That's so stupid.

I honestly don't care what anyone does. I try to not be judgmental. I'm sure some people who mask up all the time are immuno compromised or what not, or just feel that's best for them. Doesn't really effect me even if I think it's silly.

As long as I am free to not be required to mask at this point, I don't really care what others do, or what precautions they take.

Very much this. I wore a mask flying and at a conference two weeks ago. I don't care - but I returned to normalcy because that's what's expected.

Those people who seclude themselves going on two years, is just more crazy town than anything.

Queen Colby and I forgot to take a mask to the hospital for my her induction... I had one single dirty paper mask at the bottom of my center console. I put it on long enough to walk in and ask for two masks.

This is how much I have forgotten about masks

I don't mask anywhere besides the required medical offices/hospitals. I actually don't mind that those areas are still requiring one. I might do that even if it weren't, especially in a hospital.

I mask most places (work, public transit, planes crowded indoor spaces). I am immunocompromised though, so it's part of what comes with that. I also limit places where my mask would be off and near people outside my friends (crowded restaurant for example).

I mask so I can do things.

The only thing that's changed for us re masking is that I stopped running the HEPA filters in my covering. Otherwise we're still rolling pretty much the same way we've been doing for like 2 years or whatever.

I don't care what anyone else does but unless I'm sick I'm pretty much done masking.

One of my friends the other day said they were invited to a kid's birthday party at a location that was requiring masks and they were going to go and refuse to mask because the face diaper nonsense has gone too far. So seriously you're going to take this stand, probably get booted, and have this and not the kid be what people talk about?

If you want to take that stand, call the parents and say "sorry, we're not going if we have to mask" and don't go. I'm not huge on government mandates but private citizens can require whatever and I can choose to comply or not go, and not be a dadhole.

Yeah agree with this. That person sounds like a dad hole.

in August 2022 it’s dumb that anywhere is enforcing masking but also being a pissant about wearing one when asked is extremely immature

That's been the case since this started.

Yeah my daughter never got her booster before she got it again last week. She kicked it pretty quickly.
