Or this is just what everyone said it would become before we could live our lives. Sure there are edge cases of severity like the flu now - but there aren't masses dying from it daily anymore, right?

I think I read the other day that hospitalizations and deaths are on the rise, but I don't recall seeing any type of comparison, so it was hard for me to gauge how 'worried' I should be. It was a random article, and since it's not plastered on the news 24/7, I'm assuming things are still looking good right now.

That said, I've got vacation coming up in a little over a month, and the two weeks prior we will be doing what we've done even before covid, keeping to ourselves and not really going out. After that one time I got sick the day before vacation, I'm not doing that **** again. Gonna miss my sister's 2nd baby shower (that she doesn't even want), and she apparently does not like my decision.

Probably normally, but immediately family has always gone to these. My wife will be missing it, too.

I got a "why did you bother getting vaccinated" speech, and didn't feel like getting into a pointless debate, which is kinda how I feel about this in general. I'm going to do what I want, and those who don't like it can kindly **** off. Just like I don't give a **** what she or anyone else does at this point.

The CDC map (https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracke ... nityLevels) is largely categorized in low, medium, and high by hospitalization levels. The NE is currently having a rough go at it, but the rest of the country is still relatively alright.

I don't think, baring some crazy super potent variant, there's any coming back to lockdowns/closures. Maybe masks again, but even that probably won't fly at this point.

Thankfully, none of my family members have said dumb **** like that. I got vaccinated to stay out of the hospital and morgue. As for that vacation stuff, I'm trying to avoid every damn thing - cold, stomach bug, etc.

BA.1 was omicron. BA.2 was the "stealth" variant. The one taking off now is the BA.2.12.1.

North Korea imposed a nationwide lockdown Thursday to control its first acknowledged COVID-19 outbreak after holding for more than two years to a widely doubted claim of a perfect record keeping out the virus that has spread to nearly every place in the world.

The outbreak forced leader Kim Jong Un to wear a mask in public, likely for the first time since the start of the pandemic, but the scale of transmissions inside North Korea wasn’t immediately known. A failure to slow infections could have serious consequences because the country has a poor health care system and its 26 million people are believed to be mostly unvaccinated. Some experts say North Korea, by its rare admission of an outbreak, may be seeking outside aid.

PPS reinstated their mask mandate effective today. It lasted all of 2 weeks.

Cases are up. My work put Allegheny county locations into the next threat level (HPCON B) which means we have to go from 100% workplace staffing down to 80%. Not applicable to me as a WFH user but some boomers will be inconvienanced.

Our school district sent out an e-mail two days ago that cases are increasing, etc., but that the CDC and county have not advised us to return to universal masking yet. That could change, but even though we've told our daughter she doesn't need to wear one, she still brings it and wears it while in the classroom (her choice).
