I'll trust the CDC over HHS.
The CDC is a part of HHS... :pop:
I'll trust the director of the CDC over the deputy chief of staff of the HHS.

Second worst part about phpBB is that it still notifies you if someone on your ignore list quoted you.

I also enjoyed the assertion that there was some sort of pleasure from shutting things down. That one always makes me laugh.
Yeah, this one's completely insane to me. This has been an absolutely dismal 6 months, and I can't imagine the level of cerebral defect that accounts for the ability to use a computer but also provides for the capacity to think people want this level of social encumberment.

I think the theory is we hate Trump so much that we want the economy to fail so he won't be reelected. Even at our own expense.

Your muricans were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should.

I believe stupid was the word used and this isn't done yet. I'm sure we'll be back up soon enough.
Let's do comparative graph analysis in 70 days and see where #DumbAmericans are.

I was in a webinar yesterday with a company that would be in the know and they said best case scenario is Q3 2021, worst case scenario is Q1 2022 for a fully deployed vaccine.
I just don't know how it would be logistically possible to deploy a vaccine on that scale on that timeline. They're talking about one of the leading vax candidates requiring something like -60°C refrigeration, which is not exactly a widespread capability.

Moderna and Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine candidates require ultra-low temperatures, raising questions about storage, distribution
Executives from Moderna and Pfizer on [August 26th] separately told the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice on Wednesday that mRNA-1273, which is Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine candidate, requires a storage temperature of negative 4 degrees Fahrenheit. BioNTech and Pfizer’s candidates, BN1162b2 and BNT162b2, need to be stored in negative 94 degrees Fahrenheit.

“These storage conditions would make traditional office or pharmacy administration very difficult,” SVB Leerink analysts wrote in a note to investors on Thursday. “These conditions could be met at tertiary hospitals and laboratories and could be accommodated in intensive one-day vaccination events at such sites, but this would still only cover a fraction of the healthy population.”

I'm suddenly imaging standing in a mile-long line outside of some building without windows hoping the COVID vaccines don't run out before it's my turn.

That's exactly the mindset I just don't get... I don't think they get any joy over shutting things down and seeing businesses close. Who the f*ck would?
You're right, but my issue is that the moves they made were inconsistent and there was absolutely preferential treatment given if they stood to benefit in any way.

I know multiple (3 or more) small business owners that are shuttering or have shuttered.
I'm not suggesting there wasn't inconsistency. There certainly was. I just don't picture Wolf seeing the doors on businesses closing and him sitting in his office like this:

More of a thought exercise, but...

For some, the ends would justify the means, no? The ends in this case is doing whatever is needed to ensure Trump gets Das Boot in November. I agree with you that there is no joy in it, and certainly no Dr. Evil, but let's call it...complicit exploitation, or convenient complicity.

If the economy and unemployment rate were at or close to Q4 2019 today, democrats would have a really tough time IMO winning the White House away from any incumbent...even a complete d-bag.

The economy tanking because of COVID took away Trump's biggest first-term victory. IMO, it doesn't take Nadia Comaneci-level mental gymnastics to form connections between how certain leaders reacted, their political affiliation, and how that affected the overall polical clout of the current administration. Do you really find it that hard to believe that there would be decisions put into place that take political posturing into account, even during a flippin pandemic?

Sure, but Biden has polled ahead of Trump since day 1 so while I can conceive of that motivation, it hasn’t been necessary.

If anything, the shut downs have hurt Biden. It's stirred anti-Democrat rhetoric in PA and I'm sure in other states that experienced extended closures and voters in the middle who might have lost their jobs, businesses, etc. sure as heck are blaming Democrats/Socialism and looking toward Trump as their only option now.

Thank god for right-wing spin.

Trump **** up the respond to covid -> points to Europe, says actually Trump done good.

Novel virus spreads uncontrolled through country, people forced to stay home, economy tanks -> blue states tanked the economy on purpose to hurt trump.

Welp, two positive cases at my daughter's elementary school. I'm guessing this ends the in person experiment. She's been home anyway, for this exact reason. I knew this was coming.

INT. VARIOUS OFFICES - DAY

Democratic governors are on a Zoom call, cahooting with one and other, as they are oft wont to do.

NEWSOM
Man, Trump is just the worst.

INSLEE
Amirite? lol

CUOMO
I have an idea...... hear me out, because it's kinda loopy.

The other governors on the call lean in closer to their webcams, curious.

CUOMO (cont'd)
What if we were able engineer a global health crisis that will require the entire world to shut down their economies for pretty much an entire calendar year? It will require the cooperation of several Republican governors as well as the leaders of pretty much every other sovereign nation on the planet, and will unleash widespread levels of hardship on humanity on a scale no one in the Western world has any living memory of.

WHITMER
You're talking about some Great Depression level suffering?

CUOMO
It's the only way we can win.

NEWSOM
Dude, that pretty far out, man, I don't thi--

CUOMO
But, Trump.

NEWSOM
I hadn't thought about it like that.

Never let a good crisis go to waste. It is kind of naive to believe that both sides aren’t inflicting some harm to the other sides supporters.
