At some point in time the goalposts were moved from hospital overload to no cases.

It probably was somewhere around when the petty fascists figured out they enjoyed the right to randomly use executive power for "health reasons".

Which is how you get bizarre rulings about what was essential (stuff owned by political friends) and what isn't (stuff the governor doesn't like).
If the top guy didn’t punt to the governors so he could blame them later and instead taken a unified stance, your point would be moot.
He punted to the governor's because in America the Federal executive has no authority over state health decisions and lockdowns.
Even if he doesn’t technically have authority, he’s the leader of the nation. He should’ve at least invited them to a zoom call and figured some **** out

I'm actually tolerant of most re-opening actions. Ultimately it's up to people to be accountable to themselves and the people they love.

Except for the really stupid stuff. Like, the spit in the face of society stuff. Not wearing a mask at Wal-Mart. Playing collegiate sports when the the campus itself is closed to learning on site. Just real bonehead behavior that you have to actually try and be a drain on society.

Publicly stating that everyone should wear a mask and act responsibly by socially distancing was too big an ask for the leader of the nation, so that his cult would follow suit. It's as simple as that.

Your muricans were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should.

I also enjoyed the assertion that there was some sort of pleasure from shutting things down. That one always makes me laugh.

Laugh out of ignorance or what?

If you don't think some of these mayors and governors haven't enjoyed their random dartboard throwing shutdown power than you have a much higher idea of the selflessness of politicians than most

That's exactly the mindset I just don't get... I don't think they get any joy over shutting things down and seeing businesses close. Who the f*ck would?

I worked in a politics for a little bit and you maybe would be surprised at how much even local city councilman, let alone national politicians, enjoy the levers of their newfound authority.

There is a reason why politics is referred to as Hollywood for ugly people.

I honestly question the mental health of anyone who wants to be an elected official above the school board level. Megalomaniac or nah?

You're right, but my issue is that the moves they made were inconsistent and there was absolutely preferential treatment given if they stood to benefit in any way.

I know multiple (3 or more) small business owners that are shuttering or have shuttered.
