Nobody had it in the bubble for them to see how it spread. It has to be there for it to be studied. Kinda crazy how my sport is the covid superspreader! Why? The study wants to show how hockey affects Covid. Not how their bubble format affects it.I'm not sure you can compare since the NHL playoffs took place in a complete bubble.Yet the NHL finished a tournament without an issue

COVID-19
Hey, is that bad news for non-bubble hockey?
COVID-19
Well in the NHL, everybody was tested and locked down, even the hotel employees. There was no way that virus was ever getting in. In youth or beer leagues, that's obviously not the case. So when someone comes in who is infected, it will spread. The question is why is it spreading more in hockey than other sports. Why? The study wants to show how hockey affects Covid. COVID-19
I know some folks think it's the "meat-packing plant" type atmosphere in a rink. I'm betting that it could also have to do with lack of mask wearing. in our local league we had a superspreader game about 2 weeks ago. almost an entire team became infected. out of 13 players and a goalie, 11 players became infected, 2 players had immunity from previous infections and the goalie, who always wears a face mask both in the locker room and on the ice (the only player to do that) never tested positive. at our rinks you are supposed to keep your mask on except for on the ice but it's not enforced. The question is why is it spreading more in hockey than other sports.
COVID-19
FWIW, Czech Extraleague started September 17 - so the teams were together since August (pre-season). By exactly the middle of October, the percentage of COVID-infected players, coaches, and team support members was 73%!
Not surprisingly, in the last several weeks, there have been pretty much no new cases after the league was allowed to resume on November 7 (no games were played October 12(?) - November 7).

I got mexican takeout last night and it was dead and the owner said it's been pretty slow. We get takeout there once a week because it's good and I want to help out. What did you get to eat? Some more local flavor for you:
I ordered Mexican take out last night, and was told it was a 35 minute wait. That's unheard of for this place.
I go to pick it up and the parking lot is full, and the restaurant is packed. We do not have indoor eating restrictions in place. I've been going to this place for ten years, and it was as busy as it's ever been for a random Thursday night. No spacing, obviously people eating without masks on.
On my way home, the big Baptist church lot is full and the overflow lot is half full. Not sure what was going on there, but knowing the types of folks that attend Southern Baptist churches in my area, probably not a whole lot of mask wearing going on inside. This is the sister church that had a big tent revival a month or two ago and caused its preschool to shut down, and a handful of people to get hospitalized and 1-2 died from it.
We're doomed.

1,197 new cases in Allegheny today but only 779 from PCR tests. The rest were probable.
Can someone explain what that means both by definition and practically?

COVID-19
My guess for probable cases is where someone calls their doctor and says they have had symptoms of COVID for a couple days and their doctor says "You probably have it, don't leave your house, don't bother getting tested", or they count family members/housemates of those who test positive as part of the count.

If memory serves, to be officially a case, it needs to get a pcr test (gold standard of viral tests). You could be positive in the antibody, antigen, or whatever other test and it’s considered probable... probably.

I thought what c2i said too. I wonder why today there would be such a large volume of probable cases relative to every other day

Absolutely terrible. I'm as COVID-conscious as it gets, but the colossal POS mayors and governors seem to just be wielding their increasingly unchecked powers selectively and unfairly.
The frustration is palpable.
Chef Andrew Gruel is a great follow on Twitter as it relates to this issue. It's sad.

This is good stuff. I have a healthy degree of cynicism with any sort of crowd funding stuff, but this is nice to see.
