It's nursing. It's not going to be a 40 hr work week.
If you negotiate a travel contract, you can most certainly negotiate that as well. I worked for a travel nurse company for eight years.

I always assumed covid care is funded the same way PPP and airline bailouts were funded....printed fake money from the Fed
They just write it off
You don't even know what a write off is.
But they do. And they’re the ones writing it off

This can go in a few threads, but I'll put it here. UPMC has started a travelling nurse program that will pay $7,000/week to help stop the poaching going on with private travelling nurse companies. That's like...that's a lot of dough
It’s not that much. Starting rate around 70-80/hour
7000*52 = $364k

It's a lot. I venture most doctors don't make that much

Edit: or are you saying my wife got bad info? I think she got it from a news reel
external casual agencies are getting about 7000/week but the agencies take a portion of the cut of that. in your example you are saying the person is working 100 hours/week which is highly unlikely. regardless, it's still a nice salary but comes with the travel stipulations - work somewhere in 6 week assignments, be liquesced to work in 3 states, etc

Got it. I am aware of the travel nurse/travel PT scene as many of my wife's friends went on to do that. It's nice if you are young and don't have much family to take around with you. And don't mind living in podunk towns as I imagine those are the places that are hard to fill full time positions, thus the need for floating nurses.

On a personal level, it kind of sucks as my wife is basically a travelling PT, just that she travels within the Pittsburgh area. Her role is essentially the same - fill in where the demand is the highest, work in whatever department is needing her most - sometimes multiple floors in a day. Not like her previous job where she worked with stroke patients day in and day out at one hospital. She makes nowhere close to these travelling nurses, not to mention she gets no benefits.

Hospitals are strained enough. You make people pay for the care, we'll never get it. I get the thought, but it would be punishment to hospitals.
This might have been the post that has put me on a pause on banging that drum. But I'd really like to know more about how the costs for free COVID care for unvaxxed is spread around.

I assume if they have insurance then the insurance company is paying. If they don't have insurance, then what? FedGov? So we're all paying?

I'm either subsidizing it through my insurance or through federal payroll tax, right?
I've always taken this as a "fix the glitch" kind of thing. You're not so much forcing people to pay for care so much as you're putting them in the position of making a decision to either stick to their guns and proceed to financial ruin, or to suck it up Buttercup and get jabbed or die at home. Either way, I'm kind of at peace with the outcome.

That the wealthiest population in human civilization allows for this choice is kinda shitty tbh.

Pcr test was negative on my kiddo. Back to just waiting until she gets it or can be vaccinated.

Within last 2 hours: elementary school district went online for Thursday and Friday (back in person after MLK day, hopefully). University affirmed in-person (w/mask mandate for students and instructors) start of the semester (the day after MLK). I myself start teaching (8-12 and 1-5) this Saturday. :D

The last I saw said maybe in April if the third shot shows a good response. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever

Based on Uncle Google, completely typical for Omicron.

The worst part about getting delta would be knowing you're also gonna get omicron

Loss of taste and smell is just less likely with omicron. Not completely gone. More than 95% of cases now are omicron.

Just read an article saying that a headache near the forehead/temple/cheek area is a symptom of omicron. My cold-like symptoms all subsided about a week ago, but this headache keeps popping up 1-2 times a day. It's annoying.

Last kid woke up with no voice, that should check off the list for all 5 of us. Everyone has felt worse in the past with a cold, so if that sticks, I'll be relieved to have gone through this with very minor symptoms.

Our campus requires a negative COVID test if un-boosted. All of the testing centers around are slammed, and results are very slow to get back. So employees and students need a negative test within 72 hours of this Friday to return to campus Tuesday (when classes start). Testing centers aren't getting results back in that time period, with some people waiting up to ten days for results.

They are going to be lenient with class attendance next week, but no word on what to do with employees without a negative test by Tuesday.

Our hospital is putting out results from PCR tests in 6 hours, it's just a matter of getting scheduled passed from your local physician.
