COVID-19

Postby LITT » Thu Jan 14, 2021 7:42 am

Most of the nurses in my wife's company, which provides in-home services to the elderly, are declining it. Some because they are younger and have some concerns over possible fertility effects, which I get, although there's conflicting evidence about it. Others fall in the "lol" tinfoil hat group.

My wife's a Social Worker and will get it first chance she can.
I’m not sure how this whole fertility thing with the covid vax was spread around...but it’s horseshit. Makes zero sense theoretically
ive fielded this question about 10,000 times

the internets tell us that the mRNA vaccine produces a spike protein that assists with placental formation (syncytin-1) and this will impact placental formation FOREVER.
the covid spike protein does have similarities in it's genetic sequence to syncytin-1 but there is very low probability that it would ever impact syncytin-1 proteins due to how the body interacts with the surface of proteins

there were 19 women that became pregnant while in the pfizer clinical trial. one of them had a miscarriage, they were actually in the placebo group

Who else here received at least one dose? I'm curious as to which vaccine everyone's getting. I received the Moderna vaccine because I went to one of our satellite hospitals.
got my first pfizer does 10 days ago

pifzer or moderna
Pfizer
interesting ive heard the side effects with moderna have been much less than pfizer. i think across the board people are feeling pretty crummy after the 2nd pfizer does. sympton onset 12-18 hours post injection, symptom duration 12 hours.

You've heard that in your clinical setting? I ask because the stories I've read in the news stated that the Moderna vaccine appeared to have stronger side effects, though nothing major. Both my wife and I still have some upper arm soreness 18+ hours later, but she says it feels just like when she gets her flu shot. Looking forward to dose 2, regardless.

my friend who's a pharmacist in Louisiana has recommended following this page on Facebook as a resource for vaccination questions:

yes. i would say 60-75% of people with pfizer are experiencing side effects ranging from migraines, fever, chills, myalgia, nausea, vomiting. moderna rate hasnt been that high from my anecdotal surveying. i will say regardless vaccine, no one has said they wouldnt do it again which is good.

My wife is due her 2nd dose next week I believe. First dose she had some minor arm soreness and a slight headache. Nothing much else. She got the Pfizer vaccine.

Well I would not recommend getting COVID. We’re all def doing better though. That really really sucked though. As much as I knew it was no joke before having it, it’s even more of not a joke now. It was def very scary and such a weird sickness.

Older adults in Allegheny County will have to wait for covid vaccine, officials say
https://triblive.com/local/older-adults ... cials-say/
People 75 and older in Allegheny County will have to wait longer to get their shots of covid vaccine as county officials await guidance from the federal government.
.... what?

Same. Other states are moving onto 65+ individuals, we're stuck on just health care, and not only just health care but UPMC is still on just employees. And what guidance are they expecting from the federal government? They're a little busy over there...

UPMC's the largest employer in PA, by a very wide margin, FWIW.

Our university got notified that faculty have been moved into 1b in SC. However, it is for "student facing" faculty only, and there is not definition or ways to prove we teach face to face...so there's that.

Everyone should just get in line. That’s a weird line in the sand, IMO

I'm still waiting for an update at my University. They basically said they know nothing as of this week, but we did hire an outside group to start administering tests so teams can move forward with practices so I guess that's good. Since I'm around the athletes, I asked if I would be in the group getting tests and they said no, but you probably should, so chaos and confusion as normal

The last tweet on the subject that was posted said only for 5 months. The vaccine should be more enduring than that, right?

I'll be taking all of these reports (immunity is gone after x months or you're completely protected doesn't matter to me) as clickbait until at least next winter. People are taking snippets from scientific articles that they don't fully understand and making them into a story.
