Why is it necessary to understand risk and be able to properly inform folks before they get a shot? Why is it necessary?

I wonder what the odds of 6 people developing blood clots naturally would be in the same time period without a vaccine

Because scaring people because of infinitesimally small numbers of blood clots is way more a problem here. Why is it necessary to understand risk and be able to properly inform folks before they get a shot? Why is it necessary?
Does anyone at CDC do cost/benefit analysis?

The CDC and FDA are currently doing a cost/benefit analysis of people in these demographics getting the vaccine for chances of clotting vs chances of severe covid. That’s the point of this pause.Because scaring people because of infinitesimally small numbers of blood clots is way more a problem here. Why is it necessary to understand risk and be able to properly inform folks before they get a shot? Why is it necessary?

If nothing else, people need to be aware of any risk and be told the symptoms to look for. Surely you’ve seen prescription medicine commercials where they have to verbally list side effects. My guess is the chance of getting those is minuscule as well but they have a duty to inform people.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ so those people would prefer the FDA to just ignore it?This whole Johnson and Johnson thing isn't gonig to help convince those handful of people that are worried about the long term effects that I mentioned yesterday.

Ha. No, I think the CDC and the FDA are doing the right thing IMO. I just find it funny that I brought up these people yesterday and now this happens. (I think it was in the political thread).¯\_(ツ)_/¯ so those people would prefer the FDA to just ignore it?This whole Johnson and Johnson thing isn't gonig to help convince those handful of people that are worried about the long term effects that I mentioned yesterday.

Way to go NAN! I think the people who look at this pause and use as evidence that their anti-vax stance was correct were already a lost cause. They weren’t getting a shot regardless.Ha. My wife signed up for the J&J because she didn't want to get the Pfizer/Moderna shots. Naturally, I am rubbing this in her face. #teampfizer

They are the same technology. AZ, J&J, the Russian one (Sputnik V) and one of the Chinese ones (Convidecia) are all viral vector vaccines. It's the same technology that is sometimes used for flu vaccines. It's also been used for Zika, RSV, HIV, ebola, and malaria.Does J&J use the same tech as AZ?

I don't fault a state for stopping when the CDC or FDA says to stop. I can't imagine the liabilities involved if you don't.
