Handshaking should never come back. Why do I want to touch some stranger's sweaty palm?

I propose replacing the handshake with the chirichozu.

Nearly half of new US virus infections are in just 5 states
The spike in cases has been especially pronounced in Michigan, where the seven-day average of daily new infections reached 6,719 cases Sunday — more than double what it was two weeks earlier. Only New York reported higher case numbers. And California and Texas, which have vastly larger populations than Michigan, are reporting less than half its number of daily infections.

Though Michigan has seen the highest rate of new infections in the past two weeks, Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has said she does not plan to tighten restrictions. She has blamed the virus surge on pandemic fatigue, which has people moving about more, as well as more contagious variants.

“Taking steps back wasn’t going to fix the issue,” Whitmer said as she got her first vaccine Tuesday at Ford Field in Detroit, home of the NFL’s Lions. “What we have to do is really put our foot down on the pedal on vaccines" and urge people to wear masks, keep their social distance and wash their hands.

Is it centered around “we don’t want the j&j vaccine” Detroit or is it pretty evenly spread across the state? Seems like an insane spike at the moment.

I am officially Team Pfizer. Is that Team Hot Dog Water or Impervious Butthole Sneezers? I can’t keep track.

On a side note, absolutely amazing to watch the rollout operation at Dick’s HQ.
My mother in law got it there yesterday, she too said it was very impressive

Moderna 2nd dose timeline for me:

4 pm injection
10 pm heading to bed, just arm soreness. Slept just fine except for a kid that kept waking up.
8 am woke up feeling fine, no problems. Got to work and had to read a 40+ page report and comment on it to our VP as to whether to pursue that opportunity or not. After reading it and going to have a chat with him about it, my brain was just mush. Couldn't concentrate, couldn't think, couldn't do anything.
12 pm decided to head home for the afternoon. Laid on the couch and just watched netflix. Just felt tired. Really tired.
9 pm went to bed. Again, not really feeling sick or fever or aches, just tired.
6 am, woke up feeling like a million bucks, despite bad sleep due to a toddler and a dog crying through the night.

All in all: not bad.

people i know are complaining about persistent fogginess 6 months after they've had it. the teenaged son of a friend of ours developed celiac immediately after recovery.

post-COVID problems seem a hair beyond anecdotal - even though it seems like most people are still totally fine.

here's mine

4PM shot
arm soreness up until I went to bed
4AM woke up with a fever, body aches
dealt with that throughout the day. felt better after I took tylenol but it went in cycles. felt pretty bad at 4PM
11pm bed
4am woke up in a pool of my sweat. I was over my fever but sweated it out. so dealing with the sweat was annoying as ****
8:40am woke up, feel absolultely perfect other than arm soreness

so 12 hours after the shot I got aches and a fever but it only lasted 24 hours that. 36 hours after the shot and I'm good to go

Fiance had the same side effects with Pfizer. Fever, chills, aches, headache. Second shot on Wednesday, Thursday was rough, woke up 100% on Friday.

Hey I calls em like I sees them. Or maybe this is my revenge for not being welcomed to the team.

I know of two other people who had their second shot on the same day and the worst they had was some mild fatigue. If that makes you feel better.

Looks like our neighborhood is about to be a case study in vaccine effectiveness and if transmission is possible....

Neighbors across the street (husband and wife both vaccinated, two grade school age kids who obviously are not) had a huge Easter celebration on Saturday with extend family from the husband's side. Most of the attending family, including husbands parents, are not vaccinated. Husband's mom didn't bother to tell anyone that she felt like **** on Saturday, as well as the proceeding two days. On Sunday the family goes to visit the wife's side of the family. Wife's parents are both vaccinated, her father is currently battling cancer, but her sister, brother-in-law, and the rest of the attending family are not yet vaccinated.

Nice weather on Monday brought about the neighborhood shenanigans; kids everywhere, parents hanging out in the cul-de-sac, playsets, Power Wheels, bikes, the whole nine yards. At least two of these participating neighbors are vaccinated (cops) and two of the families had COVID run through their households over the winter with no long-term issues. I have no idea the vaccination status of the other families involved, but given the neighborhood prevalence for Tucker Carlson viewing and Wendy Bell fandom I'm going to lean towards unvaccinated.

Husband's mom continues to feel like **** on Sunday and finally decides to go get tested on Monday, with the completely unsurprising result of the test coming back positive. She is apparently not doing well, which seems like karma for knowingly exposing a ton of people in her own damn family. Thankfully we were busy on Monday as we now wait to see who all ends up sick.

I officially have all immediate family on both sides vaxxed except my BIL who is in the air force in Jersey and doesn't quite believe it works. Feels pretty damn good.
