COVID-19
I have to be honest. The next one, I'm less than thrilled about and have to schedule around it.I am really nonplussed about the prospect of getting a booster and willfully feeling like ass twice a year indefinitely. After 48 hours. Back to normal. That booster was absolutely not a pleasant experience.

European Union says it detected 42 omicron cases — and they’re mild
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2 ... IH6RF52O7EThe European Union’s public health body on Tuesday reported 42 omicron variant coronavirus cases in 10 countries across the region.
Andrea Ammon, who chairs the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, said during an online conference that the confirmed cases were mild or without symptoms, Reuters reported. Cases have been confirmed in Austria, Germany, Portugal, and the Netherlands, among other nations in Europe, the health body said.

I'd like to see the breakdown of the 42 people that were mild or without symptoms. Mostly age and vaccination status. But it'd be great if a super contagious variant was mostly mild.

A FB friend that is now muted shared a graphic that said "When you realize that only vaccinated people can fly, so they are the ones spreading the new variant..."
I hate people so much.

On a more positive note, our daughter's appointment for her first shot was Saturday, but the Factory Ministries had an open house yesterday after school for kids to come in and get vaccinated. My wife said it was a nice turnout, and it was fun for our daughter to get vaxxed with her friends.
She was stoic and brave for the whole thing...her soccer teammate, who is a year older in 3rd grade, was screaming and had to be held down by her mother
Her arm is pretty sore today but that's about it.

the fearmongering with omicron is frustrating. was delta substantially any worse for children or vaccinated adults than alpha was? omicron is likely the same; gonna **** over unvaccinated adults but won't be much different for anyone not in that group

We got caught up in scrubbing the house for Thanksgiving and the kids missed their appointment last Tuesday. They're scheduled for Wednesday, hours before my eldest's orchestra concert so she'll have to keep using her arm

Yes, Delta was worse than the original strains, pretty sure on both account.

I'm not sure that the data back up delta being worse

I'm curious what numbers you're seeing and the sources. I don’t want to worry about variants until data comes out. I’m done with anecdotal evidence of horror
when delta first started there was all the fearmongering about kids being more susceptible to it. That’s all but disappeared. Yeah kids might be more susceptible but it’d still extremely rare
the hospitalization rates for kids was like 1 in 100,000 weekly. So 2% of that is 0.2 kids out of 100k every week. Of course it’s horrifying but kids are likely more likely to get another super dangerous virusResearchers looked for signs if delta is causing more severe disease. Both studies found statistically similar levels of severity before and after delta was dominant. For instance, about 23% of those hospitalized were admitted to the intensive care unit in the delta period compared to 27% pre-delta. Likewise, 10% required invasive mechanical veåntilation and 2% died in the delta period compared to 6% and 1%, respectively, before delta.
“Although we are seeing more cases in children and more overall cases, these studies demonstrated that there was not increased disease severity in children,” Dr. Walensky said. “Instead, more children have COVID-19 because there is more disease in the community.”

COVID-19
The clinic I get my shot at only does appointments on M/W/F. I had substantial reactions to the first two, MM. But I'm getting P this time so who knows what will happen. What's the play here? Originally I was going to do Thursday and then take Friday off (we get a free day of leave for COVID shot reactions) but that's busted now.
I guess sometime late on a Wednesday and just hope to be better for the weekend?

For those that were vaccinated, yes, because I'm pretty positive breakthroughs became more frequent as Delta become the dominant strain.
I'm also fairly positive children caught Delta at a higher rate than the original strains as well. Maybe it didn't affect them worse, but it was more contagious.

I mean, your numbers there show that the percentage of children (is that what the stat is for?) who needed to receive medical interventions or died increased during Delta vs the original, even if hospitalization decreased.
I'd say that's arguably "worse", even if it was only a couple percentage points, because we're doing a direct comparison, correct?

I'd also be curious if hospitalization "decreased" during Delta because people knew what COVID was now and had ways to treat milder cases at home (how much of that 26% is due to parents rushing to the hospital like "omg my kid tested positive time to go to the hospital instead of quarantining" and that counts?)
