COVID-19

Postby nocera » Wed Jul 01, 2020 1:48 pm

Source of the post but even if a vaccine is attained, it'll be some amount of time until that gets produced and distributed on a national/global scale and people actually start taking the vaccine
There are other posters in this thread that are more up on this than I am, but I was under the impression that promising vaccines are getting mass produced even before approval so that they'll be ready to go once that approval comes through.

I was more thinking of "try to guess the date" rather than a more generic "when a vaccine is produced" answer
They are producing them now.

can't make it mandatory but hopefully schools and daycares require it. And hospitals for health care workers.
They could make it mandatory to get a job, license, go to school, and etc.
Is any vaccine required to get a job? I don't know if there is precedence or that or not.

Yeah, just gimme the vaccine. I want this to be over.
This will be the rallying cry of the anti-maskers. "See, we have a vaccine, I don't have to be accountable in any other way!"

How much does Europe’s decline have to do with them testing 2-4 times less than the USA? I know it wouldn’t account for everything in the US, but it certainly has to be a factor.

I'm willing to bet that the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers are a pretty overlapping grouping

"you don't get to tell me to wear a mask! I thought this was a free country"

"you don't get to tell me to get a vaccine! I thought this was a free country! also something about Bill Gates and a microchip"

I assume you'd have to look at the positive rate. Testing volume doesn't mean **** if the virus isn't spreading.

That’s not what I am saying, but looks like Europe decided not to accelerate testing.

I think sort of the opposite, actually. Anti-maskers tend to be making some kind of goofy political statement and reverse engineering a 'scientific' rationale involving their Amazon Prime delivery driver needing a pain pill because they can't breathe through their mask. Anti-vaxxers seem to be putting the 'science' first with no real political component to the stance, although in my experience at least, the most vocal anti-vaxxers tend to be granola crunching libbies.

France is around 2-3% positive. USA was around 6.5% yesterday.

Yeah, what I mean to say is that when we (society) have a vaccine these...people...will drop any pretext of doing anything accountable at all whether they (individually) get vaccinated or not. Green! Go-go-go full speed ahead be damnned!

looks like in the "should vaccines be required or the parents' decision" front, it's about ~30% think it should be parent decision regardless of affiliation (page 119 of https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/wp ... INAL-1.pdf)

Hospitalization would also be another metric to compare.

Good testing numbers for US. Why are PA's numbers so low? Only 4 states worse than us in test per million.

I don't really know how related KDKA tv and KDKA radio are, but KDKA radio still employs Wendy Bell. So, they suck too.

Right, that's a big difference. I think AZ had something like 25% positive, so it's probably a little apples and oranges there. The US spread is concentrated in a handful of places. (CA, TX, FL, AZ, Carolinas, etc). I wouldn't be surprised if in the next couple of months if we see more interstate travel restrictions.

Mrs Tif is having bunion surgery in 2 weeks, and had to get a COVID test today. She had to self-administer, which seems less than ideal to put it mildly.
