Masks are superfluous in commercial aircraft imo, the air filtration is bananas clean. On other forms of transit - trains, busses, cars, etc - I think there's still value.
This is more important for more airborne viruses than covid. Even though covid can be transmitted via air, it is much more common to transmit via droplet.

Your point still stands regarding the air filtration system

Eventually I'll start taking the T to work. I don't feel great about going maskless on the T, but at the same time, if 75% of people aren't wearing masks, it's more or less useless to wear a non N-95 mask. The question is, do I want to go through the rigamarole or buying N-95s or something similar when I'm still really low risk? Probably not.

By "rigmarole" you mean buying a pack of masks on Amazon? N95s/KF94 are readily available.

My brother still wears an N-95 everywhere. We were playing street hockey at easter and he was wearing it while playing. He wears it when we go golfing when it's just him and I. I admire his sticking to it if nothing else.

Yes. And remembering to wear one. And actually wearing one for 45 minutes. I am a petulant millennial.

Science VS had a FANTASTIC episode this week. It was a look back on Ivermectin. How did it become so popular? Why did it become so popular? How was it debunked (turns out, it was basically a student's homework to review a paper and he landed on the big/first big ivermectin study showing it was a miracle drug and he found a crap load of issues with it).

It's interesting because she interviews Pierre Kory. A huge ivermectin advocate MD who still believes it works. He testified in front of congress, he was on Joe Rogan, he made the rounds supporting ivermectin and still does.

Masks should still be mandatory on public transport, IMO, especially planes. The best effectiveness is when everyone has them on, and it sucks for those who are immunocompromised and are required to travel for treatment that they have to hope that their mask protects them from all the unmasked travelers on their plane/train/bus.
Airplanes are safer than most places to be without masks. In all serious though... if you believe this..then what is the endgame when masks shouldn't be needed on public transportation/planes? Is there a time when that happens in your mind?

Someone who is immunocompromised and requires travel for treatment should probably stay off commercial airplanes and public transportation.

I think alot of people who are in that situation rely on public transportation to get places...or they may have to fly to get the treatment they need. I don't think it's quite that easy as to just say don't fly or don't take a bus/uber etc.

I recognize that some people have to travel for treatment. But if one is immunocompromised, then getting in a big metal tube with dozens if not hundreds of other humans is Not A Good Idea, not only for Covid, but also for other diseases.

It would probably be more productive for government to focus on that small population than to force the public at large to all wear masks, which isn't going to happen at this point anyway. For example, if they aren't already, immunocompromised folks should be able to use the ACCESS transportation system to get to medical appointments and the like. They might still end up sharing a ride, but that might be a shared ride with three other people rather than 30 people on a PAT bus.

If you were immunocompromised in the Before Times you probably didn't run the same risk of catching a highly communicable new-to-mankind respiratory infection.
