COVID-19
That probably has to do with the fact most of the Washington deaths come from that one nursing home.Someone posted here about the cases in Washington being from China and the cases in NY being from Europe? I can't find it. I'm looking right now at the mortality rates:
NY: 0.6%
Washington: 5.4%
California: 1.8%
Is it possible the stuff in Washington and the stuff in NY are completely different strains of this thing and thus different mortality rates? I mean they're nearly an order of magnitude apart from each other...

Ah... was not aware a nursing home was hit hard. If it was 29 deaths, that's more than half of the reported deaths, cutting the percentage way down. Well, there's your explanation, self.

You can get the flu multiple times in a year. Had one coworker get it twice, two different years. There are multiple strains of it.yeah, this is another "the anecdotes are louder than the data" thing. Reinfections are possible but everything seems to point that they're pretty rareThere are some incidents of reinfection. They seem rare. If you know you have it then once you stop shedding the virus (something they can test for and give you the all clear), you can return to normal life.
I wonder what the reinfection rate for the flu is

Doesn't surprise me.A friend of mine is a pediatric OR nurse in KC (Tyler, CBear). They're basically turned over their OR for other use and now his hours are being scaled back. I'm pretty shocked he's not being re-purposed for general duty.https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/tr ... y-n1163081Kudos to any medical professionals willing to take that risk. That takes some guts.Trump says hospital ships heading into coronavirus battle, Navy says they're not ready yet
Also, the governor said, they are “reaching out to retired nurses, retired doctors, reaching out to medical schools” for more manpower.
“You need a reserve capacity,” Cuomo said.
My neighbors have been travelling the midwest meeting pediatric neurosurgeons because their youngest has brain lesions. They had decided they were going to act on it finally back in January, but the soonest they could get booked was early April. I couldn't help but think how agonizing the time in between would be, and now its bound to be even longer.

Went for a walk today. Haven't left the house since Thursday and had to get out. Bellevue is hopping. So many people out and about.
Also, loss of appetite when diagnosed with a disease that's a global pandemic makes sense. I'd definitely not feel like eating...

I went to the schenley oval to job yesterday, there were some pretty big soccer games going on. I thought that was improper social distancing.
