COVID-19
Pretty sure it was my junior year we went until June 30th due to 2 teacher strikes. Was nice starting mid September and having an impromptu week off in October, but in hindsight would have rather had more of a summer.

There are school districts in GA that begin the school year in early August.I remember graduating high school on like June 12th or something...when I was a kid it seemed normal. It wasn't till I got older and lived in other areas of PA (even semi close to where I grew up) that I realized that most schools were done at the latest by June 1st, most before that.

when I was a kid in metro ATL we started mid august and were done the first week of June. now, most districts start Aug 1 and are done a FULL WEEK before Memorial Day. seems stupid to me since the entire month of August is like an oven while June is somewhat bearable.

my assumption though is that it has to do with the High School Football season which wraps up right before Christmas.

That's crazy you guys have two more weeks. That said, we definitely started before Labor Day, I want to say the Monday before this year. And I have noticed most districts around ours are not done. Our daughter's last day was a half day last Thursday, June 2.No, it's just the final two weeks of school, and I'd like to get through them with nobody getting sick so that we don't have to cancel our vacation.

I'm going to be calling the school this week to ask them about next week. I see no reason to send her in at this point, with all tests being done. She'll miss her class party on the last day, but whatever, pretty sure she'd rather go on vacation.

My kids and wife were done on the 27th (kids actually the 26th). School district that we are moving to ended on Friday.
Old school district goes back the first week in August, as they are modifying the calendar to go year round (!!) However, their new school district doesn't start until the third week in August. They get an extra 3 weeks of summer break, which is what we all need after the last six months with me getting a new job, selling a home, buying a newly constructed home, changing schools and so on.

Yeah, they need to start shifting the calendar to get the 3-week breaks between quarters timed properly. I honestly haven't paid much attention to it because it won't affect us, but that seems very proactive for this district.

My wife is on board with me calling the principal tomorrow and explaining our situation. While not ideal, I’d like to pull her for the final 4 days. A few of you mentioned that you’ve done this with vacation before, so long as it’s not during standardized testing. Her grades are all fantastic, so I don’t see why it’d be an issue. I’ll soon find out.

Four days, especially at the end of the school year, seems like nothing.
Not relevant, but I skipped 20+ days my senior year. We could miss 30 and still graduate. I lost track sometime around April, otherwise I'd have maxed out.

I did the same thing my senior year. I only had one class that was a requirement for graduation, so the entire year was me basically hanging out in the MG program room every period. Halfway through, my math teacher told me to not bother coming since it was a waste of my time.Four days, especially at the end of the school year, seems like nothing.

I had a study hall, lunch, and some other 'free' period that I can't remember consecutively my senior year. I spent the bloc in the Band room pretty much every day. I was not n any of the school ensembles, but they accommodated me as a friend.

Naturally, the county I'm in during the week is High levels of COVID. Two motorcycle rallies on consecutive weekends plus a long Memorial Day weekend will tend to do that.
And there's a 4 day country music festival in town this week/weekend. So yeah. It's gonna get worse.

@LITT , just realized that you probably didn’t see this…LITT : Have you seen the recent articles on paxlovid and rebounds? Any thoughts on it? To me, preventing hospitalization has to be priority one, and if it means you hav ego test/mask a bit longer to ensure that you don’t spread it, that’s okay.
That said, being able to shorten the period of contagiousness would be huge, if somebody could do that.

Home tests are free... if you have the sniffles, test. Boom. Done. We're over 2 years into this and people are just saying, "hmmmm, it's just a cold. I'll just go in to work anyways." I was really hoping that was going to be something that was done: if you're sick, stay home.We have a steady revolving door at work for people getting sick. The biggest culprit is people coming into the office because they though the symptoms were just allergies.

If my eyes are itching, it’s allergies. Not swabbing my nose when I know it’s allergies.
