COVID-19
Our school district is debating whether masks will be recommended or required when school starts back up in August. My employer still requires masks indoors in common areas, where social distancing isn't possible. Just like it's been for the last 15 months. Vaccinations have ground to a halt locally.

No final determinations will be made until late July, but with board members on vacation and only meeting 1-2 times before then, the discussions have begun.
A neighboring district is giving $500 to all district employees who are vaccinated. When our superintendent brought this up for debate, our school board rep - the spouse of a pediatrician for Christ's sake - went apoplectic. How our country has gone crazy, etc. Now, the district has the money to do this - outside of CARES act funding (which doesn't allow for additional compensation of any kind) - so it's not the usual anti-tax sentiment. I don't even know what he was really upset about, and he's been kind of an imbecile the entire time.

More than 150 health-care workers who did not comply with a Houston-based hospital system’s vaccine mandate have been fired or resigned, more than a week after a federal judge upheld the policy.
Houston Methodist — one of the first health systems to require the coronavirus shots — terminated or accepted the resignations of 153 workers Tuesday, spokeswoman Gale Smith said. Smith declined to specify how many were in each category.

Most cases seem to thankfully be minor.
Most cases seem to thankfully be minor.
A CDC safety group said there’s a “likely association” between a rare heart inflammatory condition in adolescents and young adults mostly after they’ve received their second Covid-19 vaccine shot, citing the most recent data available.
There have been more than 1,200 cases of a myocarditis or pericarditis in 16- to-24-year-olds who received Pfizer’s or Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine, according to a series of slide presentations published Wednesday for a meeting of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

Good chance those people would have also had myo/pericarditis if they got covid.
Probably part of the immune systems inflammatory response to the foreign body

I'd love to see that chart as a percentage of vaccines given.https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/23/cdc-rep ... shots.html

Also, is that across all vaccines? Just Pfizer? etc.

The anti-vax twits over on MeWe love to post about the deaths and adverse events being reported on VAERS. But we've vaccinated far more people than have officially caught Covid, and the 5,000 or so deaths related to vaccination pale in comparison to the 600,000 Covid deaths. Of course, those same folks will argue that those people didn't really die or they "died with Covid, not from Covid." Well, many of the 5,000 deaths reported to VAERS were people who died after being vaccinated, but not from the vaccination.

No symptoms? Or just no issues? My sister got covid after getting both shots. My 9 yr old niece got it at the same time. Both had no issues
I wonder to what extent the breakthrough cases are tests of asymptomatic people.

Yeah Delta is running wild. The mask ship has sailed in the US, though. Pfizer/Moderna is still 88% effective against infection and somewhere around 95% effective against hospitalization for the Delta variant. Vaccinated folks are well protected, unvaxxed folks don't give a ****. Nobody is putting a mask back on.
