Bedford and Somerset county are up over 241% and 108% in the last 14 days (stay safe Tony) and PA as a whole is up 18% over the last 14 days. Hospitalizations and deaths seem to be following suit.
Yeah. I was starting to feel a bit more comfortable about going into businesses for brief durations with only a cloth mask. That came to a fast end this week. Back to curbside everything for a while and double masking when I do need to go in for some reason.

As I mentioned the other day, Somerset is 18% vaccinated. Bedford is 12%. In Somerset you can get a vaccine within a day or two, but people don't want them. I'll be very shocked if we ever top 40% vaccinated. This area is a train wreck with no redeeming aspects whatsoever. I hate it. If I didn't love my house/property as much as I do, I would be out of here.

I called a guy an idiot on instagram for posting anti-vax BS. His response was "Call me an idiot to my face. I'm not hard to find, bud." I had "ohhhhh, do you want to meet by the monkey bars or swing set to work this out???" and thought better of it before hitting enter and just left it be. Where the people aren't is nice, but yeah... not much redeemable down there.

My new move is to just report people and move on. If it's really out there, I'll recruit a few others to report them as well. You're never going to win a Facebook argument against those idiots.

Variants on the rise in FL:

One month after the peak of Florida’s spring break, the number of residents infected with more infectious mutated strains of COVID-19 has exploded, rising six-fold since mid-March and leaving 122 people hospitalized.

The information, disclosed in response to a lawsuit by the Orlando Sentinel against the Florida Department of Health, shows the total as of Thursday reached 5,177 cases involving five “variants of concern” — a designation from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for mutations that make the virus more transmissible, deadly or resistant to treatment and current vaccines.

In 31 of those cases, the people infected died.

“This is kind of what a lot of public health folks have been afraid of, and why we’re trying to emphasize the need for continued caution as we move forward,” said Zinzi Bailey, a social epidemiologist at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. “My biggest fear is that, if we become more lax with our masking and our social distancing, we will actually start creating our own variant” — including, potentially, one that could evade current vaccines.

.6%

but the article is more about the spread of the variants that spring breakers brought in.

Vaccines do a good job of protecting us from coronavirus, but fear and confusion about the rise of variants have muddled the message.

I wrote this in a group chat central to the topic a couple weeks back (?), seems appropriate still...

While (social) media is in the business of controlling information and censoring what it is that we can pass to each other even privately, maybe in that same vein, we can put a moratorium on things that cast doubt on the vaccines we have in front of us. The ridiculous pausing of that hot dog water vaccine, trying to hit us with these "scary", "nightmare" variants that have amounted to almost nothing so far (Brazilian one, charitably, pending), so there is less hesitancy to getting needles in arms.

Look at Israel's charts. When everyone gets the shot, the virus goes largely away...after that we can reset. The information gatekeepers have abandoned any degree of balance or altruism a while ago, so I'm not asking for anything particularly untoward or without precedent here.

The headline is: Vaccine good. Get the vaccine. When we all get it, we can get back in the normal direction. Go, go ahead and get it.

Please stop giving people a reason to doubt its effectiveness...you're creating a divide far more dangerous than any you've created before. This isn't political...

Is anyone really undecided at this point in time? I mean, I guess there are a few whackos, probably the same "undecided" group who don't know who they're voting for the day prior to the election, but you've got to think 99% of people have made up their mind already.

I don’t mind people voting for trump. I think they’re dumb, but I get it. I don’t understand someone not getting the vaccine. They should be neutered.

That's a bit harsh but then again that's why the variants are a "concern."

We ate at Texas Roadhouse tonight. It was the most normal I've felt in over a year. It felt like a normal night eating out. It was nice.

We just came back from eating at Narcissi with our friends. Man did that feel good. Seemed like 10 years since we’ve done something like that

Half of the time I don’t even want to click on Covid-related articles. There’s a fine line between wanting to be informed, and not wanting to get riled up or worried.

Just took a look at my Fitbit resting heart rate. Was 58 the day of my second dose (a Monday) and slowly climbed up to 68 by the weekend. Came back down through the week. It usually goes through swings of 5 or so, but that was a big spike.

Kinda neat to have that data.

Well if you like the data you'll be thrilled to know Whoop has signed a deal with the PGA Tour to show live heart rates which is what everyone watching a golf broadcast wants
