COVID-19

Postby tifosi77 » Fri Feb 26, 2021 1:25 pm

I think you're trying to create a distinction without difference. The messaging has always been that vaccines are a path to ending restrictions and getting back to some semblance of normalcy. But they aren't a magic pill that unlocks everything immediately; they don't want to create a situation where people get one shot and then just abandon all sense thinking they're immune and can't pose a risk to others.

In a few months, we may find that the vaccines are even more effective at mitigating spread than currently believed, and that may speed up opening. Who knows.

Maybe so. I have seen more than one Facebook "friend" use Fauci's words that a vaccine does not mean an end to restrictions as evidence that getting vaccinated is worthless. It reminds me of the initial recommendations for masks, regardless of why they were made. That initial recommendations did a lot of harm long after new evidence was discovered.

You are in the minority, because that's a very bad take. I think we'd all rather had that message, but that's not how it works.

Saying fully vaccinated people can congregate in twos and threes with minimal risk is not the same thing as saying "all this bullshit ends". None of this - in the broader context - comes close to being at an end until we get probably around 70% of the population inoculated. Which probably means most of 2021.
Please don’t continue in life thinking we are going to get 70% of the country vaccinated.

This seems like a ridiculous timeline. 7+ months for the first phase? Maybe they're planning to just keep throwing additional groups into 1A.

I'm beyond frustrated with how poorly PA has handled this rollout. As soon as I'm allowed, I'll be going to Ohio.

I'm the only one in my my immediate family that is not vaccinated. My mom got her first one the other day, my wife has both of hers (she works in a hospital), my in laws both have at least one (one has both), my step mom got both, my dad has both I believe. That just leaves me with nada.

I'd love to get one asap, but it seems that I might be able to squeeze in 1b. Nothing sooner unless I go to a different state.

We haven't really had too many problems scheduling and administering vax doses. But we did go an entire week without a single shot being given statewide because we exhausted our allocation.

F you PA. I'm fed up with your horrible handling of the virus. First it was minimal contact tracing, now this. Top that off with your gas taxes and all your other BS.

I'm just going to say that my BMI is stupidly high and get myself in line for a vaccine. This state is something else.

Got my first shot today. It was for all the teachers in the county, plus any older residents who hadn't gotten it yet. It was incredibly efficient. I was in and out in 25 minutes, including the 15 minute post-shot wait time.

Yeah, I noticed teachers in NC were getting shots today. That's cool. Like I said earlier this week, my wife signed up to be on the list to sign up for a vaccine. No word from my employer as to when we're eligible for shots though. Our new president likes to send semi-important things out on Friday evenings, so hopefully we'll hear something tonight.

Apparently my county has been giving out shots to teachers but the county website still says we’re in the “65 and older” phase

This **** has been a disaster
