Given WV shut off their willingness to allow PA residents to buy liquor across state lines during the pandemic I highly doubt they'll be sharing their vaccine. Particularly when they're one of the few states doing it well.

I'm not sure why/how all states are not asking for ID, etc... before giving out the vaccine for a whole host of reasons?

Or is this just another "Florida bad" take?

I wasn't asked for ID when I got mine. I know it was through my employer, but we have people who live in 3 states working here, at least.

I was worried about getting tested as everything I read made it sound like a headache (literally and figuratively), but my experience with the free testing site that they have set up here was great. I walked in, filled out a form with my basic info, got tested, walked out. No questions asked, just walk in, test, leave. It was completely different from what I expected.

Has anyone ever said, “Boy this went much faster once the government got involved.”?

There should be loose, but well defined guidelines provided from the feds, then let hospitals wiggle inside those guidelines to meet the needs of their unique patient base.

Alls I know is whatever they're doing now isn't working. UMPC is still only vaccinating their own employees and the employees who are now due for their second dose can't get it due to lack of supply (at least in Allegheny Co). Would a federal plan help? I don't know. I can't see it hurting though.

I don’t know their situation, but no one else I know of is having this issue.

Also. Not the best way to look at it, but the second dose only adds a few percent points to your immunity level.

Are we saying that the federal government shouldn't get involved at all? Because that doesn't seem like a smart move with this administration. If they can provide guidance, or assistance in some way, everyone should be receptive to it.

It seems to be a county issue. I'm just picking on UPMC because I know a little more about their situation than AHN. I don't know if it's a state-wide problem but I have heard that Allegheny is vaccinating at a higher rate than all other PA counties. I have no data to back that up, though.

To your second point, I believe the Biden admin plan was to get the first doses out regardless of supply for the second dose. Hopefully that speeds up getting the first dose out to folks. It does seem that other states are having better success at distributing the vaccine than PA.

If the feds can provide better standards and more transparency I'm okay with letting them try. The Trump plan of 'do nothing' seems to be having disparate outcomes.

My wife is due for her second dose as of Saturday through UPMC. She thought she would have gotten an email by now about scheduling her second does, but nope.

She emailed about it and basically got told that she would get an email the day before her 21 days so day 20 to schedule her 2nd dose. We shall see if that actually happens as that would be tomorrow.

My cousin works in a hospital (RN in the recovery room) and received her first dose in early Dec. Two weeks and 3 days later she came down with covid. Definitely makes the "one dose" strategy seem dubious.

The vaccines take ~14 days to take effect, no? That would just be awful timing her her, since I would assume that she got it a number of days prior to the test results?

My wife was told the first dose is designed to ramp up your system for the virus. But after a few weeks, the effectiveness starts to wear away, thus the need for a second dose.

Not sure who told her this, but she works in the hospital with a bunch of smart doctor-types. Take that with whatever grains of salt you would like.

I mean, a doctor at my wife's work said that you should get your second dose in the other arm for reasons a few weeks ago, so...

What were the reasons? Not healthy to have two chips in one arm?
