COVID-19

Postby shoeshine boy » Tue Jan 19, 2021 8:50 am

a friend who's not a health worker and not over 65 got his first shot yesterday. Moderna, I think. I asked why he qualified so soon. he's a lawyer with federal court of appeals but he's been WFH since March, no health conditions and he's so scared of contracting COVID that he lost 90+ pounds and rarely leaves his house. he said he qualifies because his stepfather died in December so now he has POA over his elderly mother's finances and therefore qualifies as a "caregiver" even though his mother doesn't live with him.
don't get me wrong, I'm happy for him but that just doesn't seem right.

COVID-19

Postby NTP66 » Tue Jan 19, 2021 8:58 am

Just got out of a conference call in which the city of Philadelphia is angry with hospitals in the region for allowing non-patient facing healthcare workers to get vaccinated before all patient-facing workers, so now every hospital in the region is pulling back and not allowing new vaccine shots to be scheduled for them. At least where I work, if you're already scheduled, you're okay.

No details were given, which is crap, because I have questions. At what point can they move forward? The patient-facing staff has had access for over a month. Do we just wait for everyone to get around to it?

This probably should be in the politics thread, but I know her through mostly through the context of covid, so...

Good... get 'em dahn.

My father in law just had open heart surgery. It got rescheduled like 3 times due to capacity issues. Kind of scary what would have happened had it been an emergency rather than a preventative kind of thing.

Our system plan is to vaccinate 1 million people by July 4. That works out to be *squints at calculator* one every 15 seconds from now until then
We can't possibly have that many hospital administrators. Right?

Do you mean vaccine administrators or is this a joke to vaccinating non-patient facing hospital employees?

The latter. The image is the healthcare system scrambling to find 1,000,000 non-patient facing administrators in the next 6 months. Hire more, maybe?

Hopefully this isn't a fake dip like Thanksgiving and Christmas...

Looks like the midwest has turned a decent corner.

Surprised that covid didn't die of boredom the second it hit Kansas.

2nd dose knocked my wife out for the day and I'm pretty fatigued from it. She had bad chills and aches.

Still worth it.

Is there any news on when PA is going to 1B? Is it state wide? Locally decided? I only ask because I'm seeing teacher friends of mine getting vaccinated. They're 1B... I'm 1B, but Centre county isn't doing 1B yet.

:thumb: I assumed this when I got my first shot since there were a handful of pregnant nurses in line with me.

I would've figured that being pregnant would put pregnant women in the high risk category. not that they're at high risk themselves but I'm sure COVID complications (lung issues) wouldn't be good for the baby

Pennsylvania expands vaccine eligibility to 65 and older
https://www.wtae.com/article/pennsylvan ... n/35254428#
Pennsylvania is expanding eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine in the initial phase of the rollout to include people age 65 and over as well as younger people with serious health conditions that put them at higher risk, state health officials announced Tuesday.
Of course, that doesn't mean they actually have the vaccine to give to you even if you meet the requirements...

I'm in 1A now and found the local hospital is doing the shots but you must be preregistered but there isn't any information on how to preregister...
