my boss has already said he won't. says he doesn't get flu shots either because people he knows that get flu shots get sick anyway. this is the same guy who goes to the buffet for lunch so......

I'm guessing a lot of young folk (under 35) won't get the vaccine. A lot of young people don't bother with the flu vaccine and I don't think they will get this one either. I never bothered with flu shot till I got to 50. Just didn't seem a threat to me and I'm thinking a lot of young people feel the same about Covid. Hopefully I'm wrong, guess we'll see.

This. This country is full of incredibly stupid people. I'm afraid the vaccines isn't going to have the impact we all hope it will. I can't wait to get it, but in the end, I think we'll be seeing this virus doing a lot more damage here for a lot longer than other countries.

This is going to take awhile. A lot of production, logistics, etc. And there are a lot of people in the world as well. Every country wants this. To me, as long as there is a light at the end of the tunnel, I'm happy. I've always expected summer time to be when things will start to go back to "normal" even if it is phasing it in.

That's the only side effect? After hearing the side effect horror stories from trial participants, I thought every person experienced the flu-like symptoms.

Haha, I'm thinking that comment is in jest based on the every person line. Other than chills that lasted for 5 minutes when I went to bed last night, can't say I felt different than had I not gotten a shot. No idea if the chills were even related, but they were multiplying.

Arm soreness was legit though. I had it resting for like 10 minutes at one point last night and when I went to move, it felt like it had been stiff for days. Wasn't expecting that, haha.

All true. And come to think of it, this past summer wasn't so bad. It was easier to social distance and do things outside in the summer. There weren't as many cases as even the virus-deniers were mostly congregating outdoors.

No jest intended! There were a lot of articles and hand wringing right after the trials concluded that detailed the extreme side effects. It was written as if everybody should expect a full day of fevers, chills, aches, etc. They suggested taking the following day off of work. As with most online news, I guess there was some hyperbole there.

We rescheduled our June 2020 wedding for July 2021, so selfishly I was hoping for faster distribution. I understand how insane the logistics are, and I understand that I'm sounding like a choosing beggar.

If you look at the % from the trials, there is a good chance. I mean it was a % based on only 30,000, but I think around 1/4 reported flu like and more than 50% reported fatigue, aches, etc.

It’s assumed there would be more side effects after the second shot because your immune system will ramp up faster because it will recognize the antigen.

The only side effect I had from the first shot was some arm pain (about half of the pain I felt after my recent Tetanus shot). And maybe I wee bit of feeling flushed which lasted for like 10 minutes the evening after getting the vaccine. It also could have been that my wife turned the heat up to 73 and I was just hot.

This isn't like an all or nothing thing. There are degrees of success. I think you're going to start noticing an impact within a few weeks. Even if just 50% of people either get vaccinated or have already had covid by summer (way lower than what it will actually be by then) the "candidate pool" for spread is cut in half, which would have an exponential impact on the growth curve.

I predict by about Valentine's day there will be marked improvements in both new cases and new deaths. And thats taking into account two-dose vaccines which I'm fairly certain provides about 80% protection after dose 1 and improves to 95% after dose 2.

We will still need to remain vigilant at that time but i can reasonably see things looking a lot more like they did in the summer than they do now. Maybe 50-75k cases a day and at least a 50% improvement in the death rate if a significant portion of the 75+ and LTCF population is vaccinated.

To add, about 15 people in my department have been vaccinated now with no side effects other than injection site pain. And nurses and physicians I know who have gotten is only had those complaints too
